Why Homelite UT10517 Chainsaw engine will not start?
    • R
      roseandersonAug 13, 2025
If your Homelite Chainsaw engine isn't starting, it could be due to no spark or a flooded engine. Try cleaning or replacing the spark plug and resetting the spark plug gap. If the engine is flooded, turn the ignition switch OFF, remove the spark plug, move the choke lever to the run position, and pull the starter cord 15 to 20 times to clear excess fuel. Then, clean and reinstall the spark plug. Set the ignition switch to the run position, push and fully release the primer bulb 7 times, and pull the starter three times with the choke lever at run. If it still doesn't start, move the choke lever to half choke and repeat. If the engine still fails to start, repeat procedure with a new spark plug.

      Martin MorrisAug 16, 2025
If your Homelite Chainsaw engine isn't reaching full speed or is emitting excessive smoke, the oil/fuel mixture might be incorrect, the air filter could be dirty, the spark arrestor screen might be dirty, or the carburetor may need adjustment. Use fresh fuel and the correct 2-cycle oil mix ratio. Clean the air filter. Clean the spark arrestor screen. Contact an authorized service center for carburetor adjustment.

What to do if Homelite UT10517 bar and chain running hot and smoking?
    • R
      robert31Aug 20, 2025
If the bar and chain on your Homelite Chainsaw are running hot and smoking, it could be due to an empty chain oil tank, chain tension that is too tight, or a malfunctioning oiler. Ensure the oil tank is filled every time you fill the fuel tank. Adjust the chain tension. Run the saw at half throttle for 30 to 45 seconds, then stop it and check for oil dripping from the SAFE-T-TIP and guide bar. If oil is present, the chain may be dull or the bar may be damaged. If there is no oil on the SAFE-T-TIP, contact an authorized service center.
