5. STARTING THE ENGINE
4. If the engine is cold and/or the
ambient temperature is low, pull
and hold the manual choke knob
out. The choke knob is located on
the front of the outboard motor.
If the fuel system is working prop-
erly, it should only be necessary to
pull the recoil starter 1 or 2 times
with the choke knob out.

5. Lift the choke/fast idle lever. The
choke/fast idle lever will stay up in
the fast idle position.
CHOKE/FAST
6. Pull the recoil starter rope slowly
until resistance is felt, then pull
briskly.
7.If it was necessary to use the
_
manual choke knob to start the
engine, slowly return it to its initial
position.
8. Slowly return the choke/fast idle
lever to the lowest position to
where the engine does not stall.
9. After the engine starts, monitor the water discharge and the oil pressure
indicator light.
