Usage Features:

The hedge trimmer is designed for cutting hedges with thicker stems and branches up to 25 mm in diameter, including hardwood hedges like Blackthorn, Hawthorn, and Berberis, as well as softwood hedges such as Leyland Cypress, Cotoneaster, and Boxwood.

Operation:

  • Battery Insertion/Removal: The battery is inserted until the locking mechanism clicks and removed by operating the locking lever. Care should be taken not to drop the battery.
  • Switching On/Off: The device is equipped with an on/off switch.
  • Handle Rotation: The handle can be rotated to +90, 0, or -90 degrees for ergonomic use.
  • Working Advice: When trimming hedges, it is recommended to start with the sides, working from the bottom upwards in a radial movement, followed by the top. For deep hedges, cutting should be carried out in stages.
  • Safety during Operation: Users must keep all body parts away from the cutter blade. Material should not be removed or held while the blades are moving. The switch must be off when clearing jammed material. Extra care is advised when cutting above shoulder height. The base plate may become hot during operation.
  • Electronic Device: The machine features an electronic device to minimize blade jamming in heavy cutting conditions, allowing for easy removal from the hedge. The machine can be restarted using the on/off switch.
  • Personal Protective Equipment: Always wear eye protection and ear protection. Protective gloves are also recommended when handling or working near the sharp blades.
  • Work Area Safety: The work area should be clean and well-lit. Children and bystanders should be kept away.
  • Environmental Conditions: Avoid operating the machine in rain, wet conditions, or explosive atmospheres. Do not use the power tool with DP3640XA or DP3660XA batteries in rain or wet conditions, as this increases the risk of electric shock, fire, and damage to the battery pack/device.
  • Unintentional Starting Prevention: Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to the power source/battery pack, picking up, or carrying the tool.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is crucial for long and reliable service.

  • Safety First: Always switch off and remove the battery before adjusting or cleaning the machine, and before leaving it unattended. Wear protective gloves when handling or working near the sharp blades.
  • Inspection: Regularly examine the machine and replace worn or damaged parts for safety.
  • Lubrication: The blade cassette should be greased every 70 hours with a multi-purpose grease containing high viscosity mineral oil through the correct lubrication point (refer to figure 7 in illustrations). Lubrication spray should be applied directly to the blade after every use.
  • Fasteners: Keep all nuts, bolts, and screws tight to ensure the hedge trimmer remains in a safe working condition.
  • Cleaning: Clean the machine after each use. Exterior surfaces should be cleaned thoroughly with a soft brush and cloth. Do not use water, solvents, or polishes.
  • Blade Sharpening: Blade edges can be resharpened by a recommended Honda authorized service dealer.
  • Battery and Charger Care: Only use the charger specified by the manufacturer. Do not attempt to charge non-rechargeable batteries. Ensure the battery pack is inserted correctly and fully charged before use. Refer to the charger and battery manuals for specific care and maintenance instructions.

Storage and Transport:

  • Storage: Always fit the blade cutting device cover before storing. Store the hedge trimmer out of reach of children or unauthorized persons, in a dry, safe place away from direct sunlight. Avoid high humidity to prevent rust or corrosion. Do not place objects on top of the machine. Lubricate before extended storage.
  • Transport: Always transport the machine with the safety guard fitted and without the battery installed. Ensure the machine is fully secure during transport and take care not to bend the blade. Lithium-ion batteries are subject to Dangerous Goods Legislation requirements; users can transport them by road without further requirements. For third-party transport (e.g., air freight), special packaging and labeling requirements apply, and an expert for hazardous materials should be consulted. Batteries should only be dispatched if the housing is undamaged, with open contacts taped or masked off, and packed to prevent movement within the packaging.

Troubleshooting:

A troubleshooting guide is provided for common issues such as the machine failing to operate (discharged battery, hot/cold battery, rear handle not located, obstructed blade), intermittent operation (low battery, defective switch), poor cutting performance (damaged/blunt blade), and excessive vibrations/noise (damaged blade, debris, loose nuts). If problems persist, contact an authorized Honda dealer.

Disposal:

Electric and electronic equipment, battery chargers, and rechargeable batteries should not be disposed of with household waste. In EC countries, these items, including defective or used battery packs/batteries, must be collected separately and disposed of in an environmentally correct manner, in accordance with European laws 2012/19/EU and 2006/66/EC. Consult local waste authorities for recycling and disposal options. For Li-Ion battery disposal, refer to the "Transport" section.
