Overview

The Honeywell Portable Air Conditioner is a compact, versatile unit designed for spot cooling, dehumidifying, and fan-only operation. Some models also include a heating feature. The unit houses a compressor, condenser, and evaporator, and uses a flexible hose to vent heat outside, eliminating the need for permanent installation. Its portability allows for easy movement between rooms, providing a flexible air conditioning solution.

Function Description:

The Portable Air Conditioner offers multiple operating modes:

  • Air Conditioning (COOL) Mode: This mode allows users to adjust fan speed and air temperature to their desired comfort level. The temperature setting range is 61°F - 88°F (16°C - 31°C).
  • Dehumidifying (DRY) Mode: In this mode, air is dehumidified as it passes through the unit without being in full cooling mode. The fan speed is preset to LOW and cannot be adjusted. For optimal dehumidification, the exhaust hose should not be connected, and continuous drainage is recommended. The built-in dehumidifier automatically adjusts based on ambient room temperatures, and it is not possible to set a desired humidity percentage. The display shows current and desired temperatures, not humidity levels.
  • Fan Mode: This mode provides air circulation without air conditioner cooling. An open window can improve air circulation when using this function.
  • Heating Mode (Applicable for models with Heating feature only): When selected, the indicator light illuminates. Heating activates when the ambient temperature is between 44°F - 81°F (7°C - 27°C). The desired temperature can be set between 61°F - 88°F (16°C - 31°C). In this mode, exhaust hoses must vent outside the room. The heat pump draws moisture from the air, which condenses into an internal water tank. The unit pauses operation when the tank is full and restarts when emptied. It is recommended to use heating mode in rooms with 50% humidity or lower and to avoid operating moisture-producing products.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Refrigerant Gas: The appliance uses R290 or R32 refrigerant gas, complying with UL60335-2-40 / UL60335-1. The maximum refrigerant charge amount is not greater than R290 0.304kg / R32 1.84 kg based on UL60335-2-40.
  • Exhaust Hose: The supplied hose has a diameter of 5.9" (15 cm) and can be extended from 9.8" to 59" (25cm to 150cm). It is crucial not to replace or lengthen the hose beyond these specifications, as this can cause the unit to malfunction by accumulating heat or causing airflow back into the unit.
  • Window Bracket Kit: Designed to fit most standard sliding windows. If the window dimensions are outside the specified parameters, the bracket can be cut shorter.
  • Room Size (R290/R32 Gas): The appliance must be installed, used, and stored in an area greater than 15 m² for R290 gas and 4 m² for R32 gas.
  • Power Supply: The unit must be plugged into a properly grounded circuit; extension cords should not be used.

Usage Features:

  • Auto Evaporation System: The unit automatically evaporates condensate through the hose, reducing the need to empty the drainage tank, except in highly humid conditions.
  • Restart Delay: If the unit turns off in COOLING, DEHUMIDIFYING, or HEATING modes, there is an approximate 3-minute delay before it can restart. This safety feature protects and extends the life of the compressor.
  • Fan Speed Control: Offers three settings: High, Medium, and Low. Fan speed cannot be adjusted in Sleep Mode or Dehumidify Mode.
  • Timer Control: Allows users to set the unit to run for a specific number of hours (1 to 24 hours) before automatically turning off. It can also be set to automatically turn on after a specified number of hours when in standby mode.
  • Sleep Mode: Designed for energy-saving comfort during the night. In Cooling mode, the fan automatically stays on LOW speed, and the set temperature increases by 2°F (1°C) after the first hour and another 2°F (1°C) after the second hour, remaining at that temperature until deactivated. In Heating mode, the fan stays on LOW speed, and the set temperature reduces by 2°F (1°C) after the first hour and another 2°F (1°C) after the second hour.
  • Swing Control: Activates automatic oscillation of the louvers for wider air distribution. The indicator light on the control panel illuminates when active.
  • Water Full Light: Illuminates when the internal water tank is full. After 5 minutes, an "E2" / "E4" error code will display, and the unit will cease operation until the tank is drained.
  • Automatic Defrost Feature: If internal cooling coils become too cold and frost develops (e.g., in cooling mode below 60°F), the unit automatically pauses operation to defrost the coils, restarting once defrosted and returned to standard operational temperatures.
  • Remote Control: All key functions, including temperature/timer settings, mode selection, fan speed, swing control, and LED display control, can be accessed via the remote control. It requires two AAA batteries.

Maintenance Features:

  • Appliance Maintenance: Turn off and unplug the unit before cleaning. Clean only with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Dust Filter Maintenance: The dust filter should be cleaned every two weeks to maintain air cooling efficiency. This involves switching off and unplugging the unit, removing the upper and lower filter/grills, gently washing them with water and/or diluted liquid dishwashing detergent, rinsing, shaking off excess water, and ensuring they are dry before reinstalling. A vacuum cleaner can also be used to remove dust.
  • Water Condensation Drainage:
    • Manual Draining (Cooling, Dehumidifying Modes): Unplug the unit, place a drain pan under the lower rubber drain plug, remove the cap, allow water to drain, and then replace the cap.
    • Continuous Draining (Dehumidifier Mode): Unplug the unit, remove the upper drain plug cap, connect the provided drain tube to the upper drain plug, and direct the tube into a floor drain or bucket.
    • Heating Mode Drainage: In heating mode, the internal water tank collects condensation faster and may require more frequent emptying. Continuous drainage is not available in heating mode.
  • End of Season Storage:
    1. Drain any remaining water condensation from the unit.
    2. Run the unit in Fan-only mode for 30 minutes to dry excess moisture.
    3. Turn off and unplug the unit.
    4. Remove and clean the dust filter, then reinstall it.
    5. Disconnect and store the window installation kit components (hose, window bracket, panel adapter, hose connector) in a bag with the remote control. Clean the kit with a damp cloth and water if needed, ensuring all parts are dry before storage.
    6. Cover the portable air conditioner with a cloth or plastic bag to protect it from dust and scratches.
    7. Coil the power cord to prevent bends and creases.
    8. Store the unit in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
