Do you have a question about the Honeywell HTRAM-V1-W and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Honeywell Transmission Risk Air Monitor (HTRAM) is a desktop or wall-mounted device designed to analyze specific air quality conditions and alert users to potential risks of airborne viral transmission. It is important to note that the HTRAM does not prevent or reduce virus transmission, mitigate existing viruses, or detect the presence of any specific virus, including COVID-19. It also does not detect CO2 levels that would make for an unsafe or unsuitable breathing environment. The device is intended to provide guidance based on air quality parameters, and caution is still required even at lower risk levels.

Function Description:

The HTRAM monitors indoor air quality, specifically CO2 concentration, temperature, and humidity, to assess the potential risk of airborne viral transmission. It provides real-time readings on an LCD screen and uses color-coded LED indicators (Green, Yellow, Red) to visually represent the transmission risk level. The device can be configured with different activity settings (Low, Medium, High, Custom) to adjust the alarm thresholds based on the expected activity level in the monitored space. It connects to a smartphone app via Bluetooth for setup, data history viewing, and advanced settings.

Usage Features:

  • Power On/Off: Push and hold the top button for 3 seconds to turn on. Hold the top button for 3 seconds to turn off.
  • Power Source: Can be powered by an external USB charger. It has a rechargeable battery for up to 10 hours of power, but it's recommended to keep it plugged in to conserve battery life.
  • User Interface: Features an LCD screen for displaying readings (CO2, temperature, humidity, risk level, battery capacity, USB power input) and status LEDs. A power button and power input port are also present.
  • Bluetooth Connectivity: Connects to a smartphone via the Honeywell air monitor app (available on Apple App Store and Google Play Store) for setup, monitoring, and data management.
  • Risk Level Indication: Displays risk levels (Low, Medium, High) based on multiple factors such as CO2, temperature, and relative humidity. These levels are indicated by color-coded LEDs (Green, Yellow, Red) and corresponding PPM values.
  • Activity Settings: Pre-programmed scenario settings based on activity levels:
    • Low Activity: Reading, quietly talking, breathing rate (susceptibles): 0.252 m3/h, CO2 emission rate/person: 0.0052 (@ 273 K and 1 atm), Quanta exhalation rate (infected): 9.4 quanta/h, activity duration for 30 minutes.
    • Medium Activity: Eating, talking loudly, breathing rate (susceptibles): 1.2 m3/h, CO2 emission rate/person: 0.012 (@ 273 K and 1 atm), Quanta exhalation rate (infected): 170 quanta/h, activity duration for 45 minutes.
    • High Activity: Running, jumping, exercising, breathing rate (susceptibles): 3 m3/h, CO2 emission rate/person: 0.016 (@ 273 K and 1 atm), Quanta exhalation rate (infected): 408 quanta/h, activity duration for 60 minutes.
  • Custom Settings: Users can set custom alarm threshold levels via the app based on their parameters and local requirements.
  • Alarm System: Triggers a one-beep alarm for Yellow risk levels and a two-beep alarm for Red risk levels. The buzzer function can be enabled or disabled via the app.
  • Recommended Actions: Provides suggested actions based on the risk level:
    • Yellow: Open windows, turn on HVAC fan, move out of room, additional actions as needed.
    • Red: Ventilate room immediately, reduce activities, move out of room, additional actions as needed.
  • Data History: The device stores up to 90 days of data history, which can be viewed by day, week, or month via the mobile app.
  • Temperature Unit: Selectable between °C or °F via the app.
  • Display Control: Users can turn off the display via the mobile app. The display will auto-off in 2 minutes if not interacted with.
  • Placement: Monitors should be placed in the center of activity areas, close to breathing height (approximately 1.5 m), out of direct sunlight, and away from induction units, floor fans, or heaters.
  • Security: In organizational settings, it is recommended to physically protect the device by placing a lock on the device enclosure and enabling only authenticated access to secure devices.

Maintenance Features:

  • Charging: The device should be charged continuously for 24 hours for the first use until fully charged. Charging time from empty to full battery is approximately 6 hours.
  • Battery Replacement: Risk of explosion if the battery is replaced by an incorrect type. Dispose of used batteries according to instructions.
  • Sensor Calibration: The CO2 sensor is maintenance-free and does not require calibration at the end user level.
  • Warranty: A one-year warranty covers components (excluding software) from faulty workmanship and defective materials under normal use and maintenance. Extended warranty options are available.
  • Disposal: The product contains a lithium-ion battery and aluminum alloy materials. Users are responsible for proper use, transport, storage, and disposal according to applicable governmental requirements.

Important Considerations:

  • The HTRAM's preset PPM measurements for each Activity Level are subjective standards based on Honeywell's assessment of U.S. state statutory limits and scientific studies. Users must verify applicable standards or regulations and adapt the product's thresholds as required.
  • A Green designation does not mean no risk for transmission. An increase in risk levels (Green to Yellow, Yellow to Red, or Green to Red) does not indicate a linear increase in potential transmission risk.
  • Infection risk calculations are based on specific assumptions (e.g., 20 people, 1 infected, 30 mins duration, 900 sqft room size) and are intended as guidance only. Numerous factors, including individual interaction, number of infected individuals, and PPE usage, affect transmission risk. Users should not rely solely on this device to determine safety.
  • The device is designed to continuously monitor indoor air. For safety and battery performance, it should be charged indoors in a 0°C to 40°C [32°F to 104°F] temperature range. The device surface may experience a slight temperature rise during charging.
