APPLICATION
The ML6984 and ML7984 are self-contained, self-
adjusting, motorized valve actuators that mount directly
onto V5011 two-way and V5013 three-way globe valves,
providing linear stem operation between 1/2 in. (13 mm)
and 1 in. (25 mm).
ML6984 is for use with low voltage SPDT Series 20, Series
60 (on-off), or SP3T Series 60 (floating) electro-
mechanical and electronic controllers.
ML7984 is for use with Series 70 0-10 Vdc, 2-10 Vdc, 4-20
mA; electronic Series 90 “SuperMod”; and 135 ohm
modulating controllers.

What to do if my Honeywell Controller motor overheats or smokes?
    • W
      William AnthonyAug 13, 2025
If the Honeywell Controller motor overheats, smokes, or components burn out, this could be due to a failed current sensing circuit or other failed electronic components. Replace the actuator and ensure that: the correct actuator is used, it is properly installed, it is not operated before mounting on the valve supply, and the proper voltage supply is used.

How to fix a Honeywell Controller valve seat that leaks?
    • G
      gilmoreronaldAug 17, 2025
If the Honeywell Controller valve seat leaks or won't close properly, it could be due to several reasons. First, the wrong actuator might be in use, or the system head pressure may be too high, so check the valve close-off rating and the voltage at the actuator terminals. Second, the actuator may not be properly installed; ensure the valve stem is fully threaded into the brass drive shaft and locked with the set screw. Finally, incorrect DIP switch settings could be the cause; check them against the Product Instruction Sheet.

Why is the LED on my Honeywell Controller off?
    • Y
      Yvonne GreenAug 21, 2025
If the Honeywell Controller's LED is off, it could be due to no or low power supply. Check the voltage on terminals T5 and T6. Alternatively, it could be in error mode due to gearbox damage. In this case, check the power supply and calibration cycle. Also, ensure the valve stroke length is between 1/2 in. and 1-1/4 in. Reset the device by momentarily disconnecting power at T5 and T6.

Why does the Honeywell ML7984 Controller actuator yoke corrode?
    • T
      Taylor CookAug 26, 2025
If the Honeywell Controller actuator yoke corrodes, it is likely due to a galvanic reaction from dissimilar metals if a stainless steel U-bolt is used with an aluminum yoke. Replace the U-bolt with a galvanized U-bolt and nuts.

How to fix a noisy Honeywell Controller motor?
    • D
      Danielle RobinsonAug 28, 2025
A noisy motor in your Honeywell Controller could be due to a bearing failure caused by overheating. Check for excessive temperature and replace the entire actuator. Consider using a high-temperature kit (43196000-001). Another cause could be worn-out brushes. Check for excessive cycling and replace the actuator.

What to do if Vdc/mA signal drops when connected to Honeywell ML7984 Controller?
    • K
      Katie MartinSep 1, 2025
If the Vdc/mA signal drops when connected to the Honeywell Controller, it could be because the ML7984 is in mA mode with voltage input. Change the DIP switch setting. It could also be signal degradation due to incompatible load impedance. Check the output and ML input impedance specifications.
  • J
    John ColonSep 5, 2025
Why does the Honeywell ML7984 Controller actuator position drift?
    • C
      Cynthia SmithSep 5, 2025
If the Honeywell Controller's floating actuator position drifts when used with a building automation system, it could be a mismatch between the actuator resolution (30 steps) and the BAS controller. Consider reading the actual valve position using a 272630D feedback module, rewiring the actuator for 3-wire control, or programming a daily valve reset.

What to do if Honeywell Controller ML will not respond?
    • M
      Martin GarciaSep 9, 2025
If the Honeywell Controller ML will not respond, it could be due to incorrect DIP switch settings (check against the Product Instruction Sheet), no control signal present (check the controller), incorrect wiring connections (check against the Product Instruction Sheet), or an internal time delay (allow at least 1/2 - 1 second for the ML to respond).
