Overview

The HORI Tactical Assault Commander K2 is a specialized controller designed for use with PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PC systems, offering a unique keyboard and mouse input method for enhanced precision in gaming. This device aims to provide a PC-like gaming experience on consoles, particularly for first-person shooter (FPS) games where precise aiming and quick reactions are crucial.

Function Description:

The core function of the Tactical Assault Commander K2 is to translate keyboard and mouse inputs into console-compatible commands. It consists of a one-handed keyboard controller and a dedicated gaming mouse. The keyboard features a layout optimized for gaming, with a directional pad, analog stick keys, and a variety of programmable buttons. The mouse is equipped with an infrared sensor and adjustable sensitivity (DPI) to cater to different playstyles and game requirements.

A key feature is the "Assign Mode (Button Assignment) Function," which allows users to remap button functions using the accompanying "HORI Device Manager" software. This software, available for iOS and Android, provides extensive customization options, including:

  • Button Assignment: Users can assign various console and PC keyboard functions (e.g., A-Z, 0-9, F1-F12, special keys like Esc, Tab, Shift, Ctrl, Alt, Space, Enter, Back Space, Delete, and mouse functions like Left/Right Click, Scroll Wheel, Forward, Back) to the physical buttons on the keyboard controller.
  • Mouse Acceleration Adjustment: Fine-tune how mouse movement translates into in-game camera movement.
  • ADS Mouse Acceleration Adjustment: Specifically adjust mouse acceleration when aiming down sights (ADS).
  • DP/LS Toggle Switch: Switch between directional pad and left analog stick functions.
  • Deadzone Adjustment: Modify the deadzone for analog stick inputs.
  • ADS (Aim Down Sight) Deadzone Adjustment: Adjust the deadzone specifically for ADS.
  • ADS Lock Feature: Potentially lock aiming to a target when aiming down sights.
  • Turning Off Backlight: Control the backlight of the keyboard.
  • Defaults (button assign, sensitivity settings): Reset all settings to their factory defaults.
  • Linear Correction Function: Adjust the linearity of input responses.
  • Acceleration Curve Function: Customize the acceleration curve for inputs.

The device also includes a "Profile Change Function," allowing users to save up to eight different button layouts and sensitivity settings. These profiles can be easily switched on the fly by holding the FN button and pressing a corresponding number button (1-8), indicated by a Profile LED that changes color (Lights off, Green, Yellow, Red, Purple, Blue, Light blue, White).

Specific gaming-oriented functions are integrated:

  • FN Button: When held down, the FN button switches the function of the Analog Stick and Direction Keys, providing quick access to alternative controls.
  • Quick Button: Pressing this button maximizes mouse output value, resulting in maximum lateral movement in first-person view. The maximum movement speed can be adjusted through four settings in the TAC Software.
  • Walk Button: Holding the Walk button while pressing the left analog stick keys simulates a slight tilt of a conventional controller's left analog stick, useful for precise movement. Its sensitivity can also be adjusted via the TAC software.
  • Snipe Button: Holding the Snipe button temporarily reduces mouse sensitivity, enhancing accuracy for precise shots. This sensitivity is also configurable through the TAC software.
  • Touchpad Functionality: The keyboard controller features an area that functions as a DUALSHOCK 4 touchpad, providing additional input options for games that utilize this feature.

The device connects to the console or PC via a USB connector. For PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 compatibility, a "PS4™ / PS3™ System Toggle Switch" is present, which must be set to the desired platform before connecting. An expansion port is included for connecting a headset, specifically for PlayStation 4.

Usage Features:

To connect the device, the mouse's USB connector is inserted into the keyboard controller's USB port, and then the keyboard controller's USB connector is plugged into the console or PC. For console use, the PS button on the HORI controller must be pressed and held to turn on the system, and a user profile selected to activate the controller. The manual emphasizes that the PS button on the HORI controller will not turn on the PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 3 system; instead, the PS button on a wireless controller (DUALSHOCK 4) or the console's power button should be used.

Troubleshooting steps are provided for common issues:

  • If the PS button on the HORI controller does not turn on the PlayStation 4 system, users are advised to use the wireless controller's PS button or the console's power button.
  • If the PS button does not respond during gameplay, users should check the PS4/PS3 System Toggle Switch on the product to ensure it is set correctly (PS4 for PlayStation 4, PS3 for PlayStation 3, and PS3 for PC Gamepad mode, or KBD for PC Keyboard mode).
  • If controls respond in the home screen but not during gameplay on PlayStation 4, it's crucial to ensure the same user account is logged in as the one used at the start of the game.
  • If the controller does not respond upon pressing the PS button, it must first be paired with the PlayStation 4 system using a wireless controller (DUALSHOCK 4).
  • If the controller is not recognized by PlayStation 4, users are advised to check for console firmware/software updates, restart the console, unplug and re-plug the HORI controller, and re-follow the connection steps.

The mouse sensitivity can be adjusted in four increments (1600, 2000, 2800, 3200 dpi) by pressing the (+) or (-) buttons on the keyboard controller.

For headset usage with the expansion port, users are cautioned to lower the volume completely before placing the headset on their ears to prevent hearing damage from high volumes or sudden loud noises.

Maintenance Features:

The manual provides several important cautions regarding the care and handling of the device:

  • Keep the product out of reach of children under 3 and away from small children. Seek medical advice if swallowed.
  • Avoid dusty or humid areas.
  • Do not apply strong impact or weight.
  • Do not pull roughly or bend the cable.
  • Do not pull on the buttons.
  • Never disassemble, repair, or modify the product.
  • For cleaning, use only a soft dry cloth; avoid chemical agents like benzine or thinner.
  • Do not use the product for anything other than its intended purpose. The manufacturer is not responsible for accidents or damages resulting from misuse.
  • Avoid touching the stereo headphone/microphone/USB mouse terminals directly, as this may cause failure.
  • Do not look directly into the red optical sensor of the mouse, as it may cause eye damage.

Regarding the USB port for the mouse, it is explicitly stated that only a mouse should be plugged in. Plugging in other devices like USB memory or chargers is not guaranteed to function and is discouraged due to protection against excess electrical current. The product uses up to 200mA. If a connected product is not functioning, users are advised to try unplugging and re-plugging the mouse and keyboard, and if the issue persists, try another device.

The infrared sensor of the included mouse may not function properly on certain surfaces, including transparent materials (like glass), reflective materials (like a mirror), red-colored materials, or mesh/similarly patterned materials. This information helps users understand potential environmental factors affecting mouse performance.
