Overview

This document is an instruction manual for the Hotpoint Aquarius Washing Machine, covering models WM61, WM62, WM63, WM64, and WM65. It provides comprehensive information on installation, operation, features, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Function Description:

The Hotpoint Aquarius Washing Machine is designed for domestic laundry, offering various wash programs and features to clean different types of fabrics. It automates the washing process, from filling with water and dispensing detergent to washing, rinsing, and spinning clothes. The machine is equipped with an interlocking door system for safety and a dispenser drawer for detergents and fabric conditioners.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Electricity Supply: The appliance is fitted with a 13A plug and fuse. Replacement fuses must be 13A and ASTA approved to BS1362. The mains lead wiring follows standard colour coding: Green/Yellow for Earth, Blue for Neutral, and Brown for Live. A special lead can be ordered from Hotpoint Service if the existing one is damaged or a longer one is required. The appliance conforms to EEC directives for Low Voltage Equipment (72/23/EEC & 93/68 EEC) and Electromagnetic Compatibility (89/336/EEC, 92/31/EEC & 93/68/EEC).
  • Water Supply: Incoming hot and cold water pressure should be between 3 and 150 psi (21 - 1034 Kpa). The hot water supply temperature should ideally be 60°C and no higher than 70°C. The appliance must be connected using the new hose set supplied. A Cold Fill Adaptor is available for installations without a hot water supply.
  • Drainage System: The drainage hose should not have its hooked end support removed. For drainage into a standard worktop sink, the outlet pipe must have a minimum bore of 32 mm, and the end of the drainage hose must be above the water level in the sink (or less than 75 mm from the front edge of an inset basin) to avoid syphoning. For standpipe drainage, the standpipe must have a minimum diameter of 38 mm and be positioned at least 500 mm from the floor. If connecting to an under-sink waste disposal unit, the membrane/bung/blanking plug must be cut out, and the hose secured with a Jubilee clip, raised to a minimum height of 800 mm to avoid syphoning.
  • Dimensions: A minimum space of 600 mm wide, 600 mm deep, and 900 mm high is required for installation.
  • Spin Speed: Maximum spin speeds vary by model, with WM64 and WM65 models supporting up to 1200rpm. Other models may have lower maximum spin speeds (e.g., 900rpm for certain programs).
  • Load Capacity: Typical wash loads are 5.5kg for cottons and 3kg for synthetics. Specific programs have varying maximum load capacities, ranging from 0.9kg for Quickwash to 5.5kg for heavily soiled white cottons.

Usage Features:

  • Installation: A 10-step checklist ensures proper installation, including choosing a location (preferably on a solid floor), removing transit brackets, connecting water and drainage, and adjusting the feet for stability.
  • Controls: The machine features a Mains On/Off Button, Wash Dial, Variable Temperature Control Dial (WM65 only), Variable Spin Speed Control Dial (WM64 & WM65 only), Optional Wash Feature Buttons, and an Interlocking Door & Release Button. The Wash Dial allows selection of programs, final rinse, or spin.
  • Wash Programs: A variety of programs are available for different fabric types and soil levels, including:
    • Prewash (A): For heavily soiled loads, 40°C, 3kg to 5.5kg.
    • Heavily soiled white cotton (B): Includes a prewash, 95°C, 5.5kg.
    • White cotton & linen (C): Without special finishes, 95°C, 5.5kg.
    • Colourfast cotton, linen or viscose (D): Without special finishes, 60°C, 5.5kg.
    • Non-colourfast cotton, linen & viscose (E): 40°C, 5.5kg.
    • Coloured nylon, polyester, acrylic/cotton mixtures (F): With special finishes (e.g., drip dry), 50°C, 3kg.
    • Acrylics, acetates & tri-acetate blends (G): With wool, polyester/wool blends, 40°C, 3kg.
    • Silk & printed acetate fabrics (H): With colours not fast at 40°C, 30°C, 1.4kg.
    • Quickwash (J): For freshening up lightly soiled items, Incoming Household Supply temperature, 0.9kg.
    • Woollen blankets, wool mixtures (K): With cotton or rayon, silk, 40°C, 2.7kg.
    • Shrink resistant machine-washable wool (K): 40°C, 1.4kg.
  • Optional Wash Features:
    • Economy Wash: Saves money and time on lightly soiled loads (not available with program 'J').
    • Super Rinse: Increases water level of the last two rinses for large loads, children's clothes, or sensitive skin (not available with program 'A' or wool program 'K').
    • Time Saver: Reduces program duration (not available with program 'A' or wool program 'K').
    • Rinse Hold: Suspends clothes in final rinse water to minimize creasing (only available with programs 'F, G, H & J').
  • Automatic Features:
    • Pulse Spin (WM63, WM64 & WM65): Reduces wear and tear by combining a long steady spin with a 30-second burst at maximum speed.
    • Intelligent Care: Prevents spinning with an unbalanced load to avoid excessive vibration and prolong appliance life.
  • Detergent Dispenser: A drawer with compartments for liquid or powder main wash detergent, prewash detergent, and fabric conditioner. The Main Wash Indicator can be adjusted for liquid or powder. Hotpoint recommends Persil detergents and dispensing from the drawer for best results. For claimed energy label wash performance, powder detergent can be dispensed in a dosing ball placed in the wash load.
  • Safety Warnings: Do not allow children to play with the appliance, do not overload, do not open the door when the indicator light is on (door is locked), and ensure the appliance is earthed.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning the Dispenser Drawer: The drawer should be regularly cleaned by pulling it out, pressing a button to release the latch, removing it, cleaning and drying all compartments, and then re-locating it.
  • Cleaning the Exterior: Use a damp cloth or silicon polish. Avoid abrasive cleaners, scouring agents, acids, chlorine-based bleach, or metal polish.
  • Cleaning the Door Bowl: Regularly clean the internal surface with a soft cloth to prevent soap powder and water hardness residue buildup, which could cause leaks.
  • Maintenance Wash: If using liquid detergent regularly or washing at low temperatures, a maintenance wash (program 'C' without laundry, using usual amount of detergent) is recommended two or three times a year to prevent greasy deposits and water hardness residue.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: Provides solutions for common issues such as the appliance not starting, not pumping out water, leaking, not dispensing detergent, long program times, noise/vibration during spin, and the door not opening or closing properly.
  • After Sales Service: Hotpoint offers a 12-month fully inclusive parts and labour guarantee, plus FREE replacement parts for 5 years if fitted by their service engineer. Extended warranties and various payment methods are available. Genuine parts and accessories can be ordered through a dedicated hotline.
