Overview

This document provides a comprehensive guide for the installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your Hotpoint Aquarius washing machine. It is designed to ensure safe and efficient use of the appliance, covering everything from initial setup to advanced wash cycles and care tips.

Function Description

The Hotpoint Aquarius washing machine is designed for domestic use, offering a variety of wash cycles and functions to cater to different laundry needs. Its primary function is to clean clothes using water, detergent, and mechanical action, followed by rinsing and spinning to remove excess water.

The appliance features a control panel with an ON/OFF button, a WASH CYCLE knob for selecting programmes, a TEMPERATURE knob for setting wash temperatures, and FUNCTION buttons with indicator lights for additional options. WASH CYCLE PROGRESS indicator lights allow you to monitor the current phase of the wash cycle, while a DOOR LOCKED indicator light indicates when the door cannot be opened for safety. A START/PAUSE button initiates or temporarily halts the wash cycle.

The washing machine includes a detergent dispenser drawer for both powder and liquid detergents, as well as additives like fabric softeners. It is equipped with a self-cleaning pump that requires minimal maintenance, designed to protect against small items falling into the pre-chamber.

Usage Features

To start a wash cycle, first turn on the machine using the ON/OFF button. Load the laundry and close the door. Select the desired programme using the WASH CYCLE knob and set the temperature with the TEMPERATURE knob. Measure out and add detergent and any washing additives to the dispenser drawer. Choose any desired functions using the FUNCTION buttons. Finally, press the START/PAUSE button to begin the cycle.

The WASH CYCLE knob allows you to choose from a range of programmes, including "CLEAN Plus" cycles like Anti Stain and Whites, "SPECIALS" cycles such as Anti Allergy (60°C and 40°C), Fast Wash (30' and 60'), and Bed & Bath. "EXTRAS" cycles include Cotton Standard 20°C, Shirts, Wool, and Delicates. Partial cycles for Rinse and Spin+Pump out are also available. During a wash cycle, the knob remains stationary.

The TEMPERATURE knob enables you to adjust the wash temperature or select a cold wash. The machine automatically prevents selecting a temperature higher than the maximum allowed for a specific wash cycle, with an exception for programme 3, which can be increased up to 90°C.

Various functions can be activated to enhance washing results. These include "Super Wash" for high-performance cleaning and stubborn stain removal, "Extra Rinse" for improved rinsing and detergent removal, and "Easy Iron" to reduce creasing by modifying wash and spin cycles. The "Spin Reduction" function allows you to decrease the spin speed. When a function is selected, its corresponding indicator light illuminates. If a selected function is incompatible with the chosen wash cycle or another previously selected function, the indicator light will flash, a sound alert will be given, and the function will not be activated, or only the most recent selection will remain active.

The washing machine incorporates a load balancing system that rotates the drum at a slightly greater speed before each spin cycle to distribute the load uniformly and prevent excessive vibrations. If the load remains unbalanced after several attempts, the machine will spin at a reduced speed or perform the distribution process instead of spinning. Mixing small and large garments in the load is recommended to improve balance.

For safety, the DOOR LOCKED indicator light illuminates when the door is locked during operation. It will switch off when the door can be safely opened at the end of the cycle. In case of a power cut, the porthole door can be opened manually by following specific instructions involving removing the plug, checking the water level, and accessing the pre-chamber to release the door.

The appliance is fitted with an automatic standby system that activates after about 30 minutes of inactivity to comply with energy-saving regulations. A brief press of the ON-OFF button will reactivate the machine.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and efficient operation of your washing machine.

Cutting off supplies: Always turn off the water tap after each wash cycle to limit wear on the hydraulic system and prevent leaks. Unplug the washing machine from the electricity socket before any cleaning or maintenance work.

Cleaning the washing machine: The outer parts and rubber components can be cleaned with a soft cloth soaked in lukewarm soapy water. Avoid using solvents or abrasives. The machine also has an auto-clean programme for its internal parts, which should be run with no load in the drum. It is recommended to run this cleaning programme every 40 wash cycles, optionally using detergent (10% of the quantity for lightly-soiled garments) or special additives. To start this programme, press buttons A and B simultaneously for 5 seconds; it will run for approximately 70 minutes.

Cleaning the detergent dispenser drawer: The dispenser drawer should be removed by raising and pulling it out, then washed under running water frequently to prevent blockages and ensure proper detergent dispensing.

Caring for the door and drum: To prevent unpleasant odours, always leave the porthole door ajar after use to allow the drum to dry completely.

Cleaning the pump: The washing machine has a self-cleaning pump. However, small items may fall into the pre-chamber. To access and clean the pre-chamber, ensure the wash cycle has finished and the appliance is unplugged. Remove the cover panel on the lower front part of the machine using a screwdriver, then unscrew the lid by rotating it anti-clockwise. Clean the inside thoroughly, screw the lid back on, and reposition the panel securely.

Checking the water inlet hose: Inspect the inlet hose at least once a year for cracks. If any cracks are found, replace the hose immediately, as high water pressure during wash cycles can cause a cracked hose to split open. Never use second-hand hoses.

Troubleshooting: The manual provides a detailed troubleshooting guide for common issues such as the machine not switching on, wash cycle not starting, water filling/draining problems, heating issues, excessive vibrations, leaks, and unusual noises. It advises checking simple solutions before contacting technical assistance, such as ensuring the door is closed, water taps are open, hoses are not kinked, and the pump filter is not blocked.

This comprehensive guide ensures that users can effectively install, operate, and maintain their Hotpoint Aquarius washing machine, addressing potential issues and maximizing its performance and lifespan.
