This document is a user manual for the Hotpoint WMAO 863 washing machine. It provides detailed instructions on installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Function Description
The Hotpoint WMAO 863 is a washing machine designed for domestic use, offering various wash cycles and functions to cater to different laundry needs. It features a control panel with buttons for ON/OFF, WASH CYCLE SELECTOR, MEMORY, FUNCTION, SPIN SPEED, TEMPERATURE, CHILD LOCK, DELAY START, and START/PAUSE. A display provides information on the selected wash cycle, phase in progress, remaining time, maximum spin speed, and maximum temperature.
The machine allows users to:
- Select Wash Cycles: Choose from a variety of cycles including Cotton (lightly soiled whites and delicate colours, heavily soiled whites and delicate colours), Eco Cotton (heavily soiled whites and delicate colours, lightly soiled whites and delicate colours), Synthetics (heavily soiled resistant colours, lightly soiled resistant colours, lightly soiled delicate colours), Fastwash (60' for normal soiled garments, 30' for lightly soiled garments), Baby Cycle, My Cycle (Memory), Bed & Bath, Wool, Silk, Spin, Rinse, and Pump out.
- Customize Wash Cycles: Adjust temperature and spin speed for most cycles. The machine automatically sets maximum values, which can be decreased. For the 40° Cotton programme, the temperature can be increased up to 90°C.
- Set Delayed Start: Program the machine to start a wash cycle at a later time.
- Activate Functions: Utilize special functions like Super Wash (increased water quantity and cycle duration for high-performance wash), Reduced Creases (modified wash and spin cycles to reduce creases), Extra Rinse (increased rinse efficiency for optimal detergent removal), and Eco Wash (saves energy by not heating water, using intensified wash action and water optimisation).
- Memory Function: Store a preferred wash cycle with custom settings for future use.
- Child Lock: Lock the control panel to prevent accidental modifications during operation.
- Load Balancing System: Automatically adjusts drum rotation before each spin cycle to distribute the load evenly and reduce vibrations. If the load is excessively unbalanced, the machine will perform a distribution process instead of spinning or spin at a reduced speed.

Maintenance Features
- Cutting off Supplies: Turn off the water tap after each wash cycle and unplug the machine during cleaning or maintenance.
- Cleaning the Washing Machine: Clean outer parts and rubber components with a soft cloth soaked in lukewarm soapy water. Avoid solvents or abrasives.
- Cleaning the Detergent Dispenser Drawer: Remove and wash under running water frequently.
- Caring for the Door and Drum: Leave the porthole door ajar after use to prevent unpleasant odours.
- Cleaning the Pump: The machine has a self-cleaning pump. To access the pre-chamber (where small items might collect), remove the cover panel on the lower front part of the machine using a screwdriver. Ensure the wash cycle has finished and the appliance is unplugged before cleaning.
- Checking the Water Inlet Hose: Inspect the inlet hose at least once a year for cracks and replace it if necessary. Never use second-hand hoses.
- Service Wash: If the machine smells, run a 60-degree wash cycle with detergent and no laundry.
