section

information
and
instruc-
tions
necessary
for
installing
and
interfacing
the
Model
1740A
Oscilloscope.
Included
are
initial
inspec-
tion
procedures,
power
and
grounding
requirements,
installation
instructions,
and
procedures
for
re-
packaging
the
instrument
for
shipment.

INITIAL
INSPECTION.

This
instrument
was
carefully
inspected
both
mechanically
and
electrically
before
shipment.
It
should
be
free
of
mars
or
scratches
and
in
perfect
elec-
trical
order
upon
receipt.
To
confirm
this,
the
instru-
ment
should
be
inspected
for
physical
damage
in-
curred
in
transit.
If
the
instrument
was
damaged
in
transit,
file
a
claim
with
the
carrier.
Check
for
supplied
accessories
(listed
in
Section
I)
and
test
the
electrical
performance
of
the
instrument
using
the
performance
test
procedures
outlined
in
Section
V.
If
there
is
dam-
age
or
deficiency,
see
the
warranty
in
the
front
of
this
manual.
Read
the
Safety
Summary
at
the
front
of
the
manual
before
installing
or
operating
the
instrument.

used

HP

cords.
The
HP
part
number
directly
above
each
drawing
is
the
part
number
for
an
instru-
ment
power
cord
equipped

connector

that
configuration.
If
the
appropriate
power
cord
is
not
included
with
the
instrument,
notify
the
nearest
HP
Sales
and
Service
Office
and
a
replacement
cord
will
be
provided.

be
operated
from
any
power
source
supplying
100
V,
120
V,
220
V,
or
240
V
(+10%),
single
phase,
48
to
440
Hz.
Power
dissipation
is
100
VA
maximum.
CAUTION
Instrument
damage
may
result
if
line-
voltage
selection
switch
is
not
correctly
set
for
the
input
power
source.

The
instrument
is
normally
set
at
the
factory
for
120-volt
operation.
To
operate
the
instrument
from
any
other
ac
power
source,
proceed
as
follows:
a.
Verify
that
Model
1740A
power
cable
is
not
connected
to
any
input
power
source.
b.
Stand
instrument
on
rear
legs.
Use
a
blade-
type
screwdriver
to
position
line-voltage
selection
switch
through
opening
in
bottom
cover.
(Figure
2-2
shows
switches
set
for
120-V
operation.)
c.
For
220-V
or
240-V
inputs,
replace
fuse
F1
with
0.5
A
slow-blow
fuse
supplied
with
instrument.

Connect
input
power
cable
to
power
source.

shipped

Office

repair,
attach

tag
showing
owner
(with
address),
complete
instrument
serial
number,
and
a
description
of
the
service
required.

and
packing
material.

packing
material

available,
the
