Using a single receiver to connect the HP 975
Dual-Mode Wireless Keyboard and supported mice
to a computer
Use the following procedure to pair the HP 93x Creator Wireless Mouse, HP 635 Multi-Device Wireless Mouse,
or other supported mice and the HP 975 wireless keyboard to your computer, using the keyboard receiver. Be
sure to use the correct receiver.
1. If an HP 93x Creator Wireless Mouse, HP 635 Multi-Device Wireless Mouse, or other supported mouse is
already connected, disconnect the receiver for the mouse from your computer.
2. Remove the cover of the mouse (1), and place the mouse receiver inside of the mouse (2). Replace the
cover on the mouse (3).
After this step, the cursor does not show on-screen when you move the mouse.
3. If the HP 975 wireless keyboard currently is connected or paired, remove the keyboard receiver from
your computer. The keyboard no longer functions after this step. If the HP 975 wireless keyboard is not
connected or paired currently, locate the keyboard receiver but do not connect or pair it. A keyboard and
mouse icon can be seen on the keyboard receiver.

Overview

This document outlines the procedure for connecting the HP 975 Dual-Mode Wireless Keyboard and supported mice to a computer using a single receiver. The primary function of this setup is to allow users to operate both a keyboard and a compatible mouse through one USB receiver, thereby conserving USB ports and simplifying connectivity. This system is designed to work with specific HP mice, including the HP 93x Creator Wireless Mouse and the HP 635 Multi-Device Wireless Mouse, as well as other supported models. The key advantage is the consolidation of wireless peripherals onto a single, dedicated receiver, which is specifically the keyboard's receiver.

Function Description

The core function of this system is to provide a unified wireless connection for both an HP 975 Dual-Mode Wireless Keyboard and a compatible HP wireless mouse to a computer. Instead of requiring separate USB receivers for each device, the keyboard's receiver acts as a central hub for both. This dual-mode capability implies that the keyboard itself might support multiple connection types (e.g., Bluetooth and a dedicated 2.4 GHz wireless receiver), but for the purpose of unifying with a mouse, the dedicated 2.4 GHz receiver is utilized. The process involves a specific pairing sequence to ensure both devices communicate effectively with this single receiver. This setup is particularly beneficial for users with limited USB ports or those who prefer a cleaner, more organized workspace with fewer dongles. The system aims for a seamless user experience, allowing for immediate use once the pairing is complete.

Important Technical Specifications

While the document does not explicitly list detailed technical specifications such as frequency bands, range, or battery life, it provides crucial operational specifications:

  • Receiver Type: The system utilizes the HP 975 Dual-Mode Wireless Keyboard's receiver. This receiver is identifiable by icons representing both a keyboard and a mouse, indicating its dual-device capability.
  • Supported Mice: The system is compatible with the HP 93x Creator Wireless Mouse, HP 635 Multi-Device Wireless Mouse, and other unspecified "supported mice." This implies a specific wireless protocol or compatibility standard that these mice share with the HP 975 keyboard receiver.
  • Connection Method: The connection is wireless, likely using a 2.4 GHz radio frequency, which is common for such peripherals. The receiver plugs into a standard USB port on the computer.
  • Pairing Mechanism: The pairing process involves physical interaction with both the mouse and the keyboard. For the mouse, it requires opening the cover, inserting the receiver (if not already there), and pressing a dedicated pairing button for 3 to 10 seconds until a light blinks. For the keyboard, it involves ensuring it's charged, turned on, and its receiver is correctly handled (either removed or not connected initially).
  • Charging: The HP 975 wireless keyboard requires charging via a USB cable. A full charge from a depleted state takes approximately 3 hours.

Usage Features

The usage features revolve around the convenience and simplicity of a unified wireless connection:

  • Single Receiver Convenience: The most significant feature is the ability to connect two essential peripherals (keyboard and mouse) using only one USB receiver. This frees up a USB port on the computer, which is especially valuable for laptops or devices with limited ports.
  • Streamlined Setup: The document provides a clear, step-by-step guide for pairing, making the setup process straightforward for users. This includes specific instructions for handling existing connections and preparing the devices for pairing.
  • Integrated Mouse Receiver Storage: For the mouse, there's a design feature that allows the mouse's own receiver (if it had one) to be stored inside the mouse itself. This is a practical feature for users who might still use the mouse independently or need to transport it without losing its dedicated receiver, even though for this specific setup, the mouse's receiver is not used for connection to the computer.
  • Visual Indicators: The process mentions light indicators on the mouse (and implicitly on the receiver) during the pairing process, providing visual feedback to the user that the pairing is active or successful.
  • Dual-Mode Keyboard: While not fully elaborated, the "Dual-Mode" aspect of the keyboard suggests it might offer flexibility in connection types, though for this unified setup, the dedicated receiver is key.

Maintenance Features

The document touches upon a few aspects related to the maintenance and care of the devices:

  • Charging Requirement: The keyboard requires periodic charging. The instruction to charge for 3 hours if not previously charged highlights the need for battery maintenance to ensure continuous operation. This implies the keyboard has a rechargeable battery.
  • Receiver Management: The instructions emphasize careful handling of the receivers. Users are advised to disconnect existing mouse receivers and to either remove or not connect the keyboard receiver at specific stages of the pairing process. This prevents conflicts and ensures the correct receiver is used for the unified connection.
  • Correct Receiver Identification: The mention of a keyboard and mouse icon on the HP 975 keyboard receiver helps users correctly identify the specific receiver required for this unified setup, preventing confusion with other potential receivers.
  • Troubleshooting Implication: The step that notes "the cursor does not show on-screen when you move the mouse" after placing the mouse receiver inside the mouse (and before pairing with the keyboard receiver) serves as an implicit troubleshooting indicator. It confirms that the mouse is no longer using its dedicated receiver and is ready for the unified pairing process.

In summary, this document describes a user-friendly system designed to enhance convenience and efficiency for users of HP wireless keyboards and mice by consolidating their wireless connections through a single, intelligent receiver. The focus is on a clear, guided setup process, leveraging specific hardware features for optimal integration.
