Evaluating color MFPs 21
Evaluation
At HP, we typically test multiple MFPs in various environmental conditions to evaluate engine reliability. We
run the MFPs to engine life and test and improve the jam rate, misfeed rate, and supplies’ life.
This kind of extensive, long-term testing is beyond the limits of most companies’ resources; however, it is
possible to estimate their product’s engine reliability. One option is to compare other MFPs’ base warranty
(make sure it is at least one year) and three-year warranty costs. When comparing the HP Color LaserJet
CM1015/CM1017 MFP with products from other manufacturers, consider the following:
• How easy is it to maintain the device?
• Does the MFP perform consistently under various environmental conditions?
• When connected to a network, does the MFP print correctly every time?
• Are there any paper jams or other failures during your evaluation?
• What is the quality of the customer support?
• What can be said for the reputation of the manufacturer? Can they offer any reliability ratings or claims
of industry leadership?
