16 Evaluating the MFP
Evaluation
At HP, we typically test our products in various environmental conditions to evaluate engine
reliability. We run the products to engine life and record the supplies’ life, jam rate, and misfeed
rate.
This kind of extensive, long-term testing is beyond the limits of most company’s resources; however,
it is possible to estimate their product’s engine reliability. One option is to compare other
manufacturers’ duty-cycle ratings, base warranty (make sure it is at least one-year), and three-year
warranty costs. When comparing the HP LaserJet 4345mfp series with products from other
manufacturers, consider the following:
• Does the product perform consistently under various environmental conditions?
• After a few thousand pages, is the print quality the same as it was out of the box?
• How easy is it to maintain the product?
• When connected to a network, does the product print correctly every time?
• What does it cost, in both expense and downtime, to replace empty print cartridges?
