18 Evaluating wide-format laser MFPs
Evaluation
At HP, we typically test multiple products in various environmental conditions to evaluate engine reliability.
We run the products to engine life and test and improve the supplies’ life, jam rate, and misfeed rate.
This kind of extensive, long-term testing is beyond the limits of most companies’ resources; however, it is
possible to estimate their device engine reliability. One option is to compare other products’ duty-cycle
ratings, recommended monthly page volume, base warranty (make sure it is at least one-year), and three-,
four-, or five-year warranty costs. When comparing the HP LaserJet M5035 MFP series with products from
other manufacturers, consider the following:
What is the product’s duty cycle and recommended monthly page volume?
Does the product perform consistently under various environmental conditions?
How easy is it to maintain the product?
When connected to a network, does the product print correctly every time?
What does it cost, in both expense and downtime, to replace empty print cartridges?
Are there any paper jams or other failures during your evaluation?
What can be said for the reputation of the manufacturer? Can they offer any reliability ratings or claims
of industry leadership?
