If the serial or parallel port is not working
Make sure the port connection is secure.
Check the port settings in Control Panel: open the hardware Device Manager, then
double-click Ports (COM & LPT).
Test the ports with the e-Diagtools diagnostics—see “Testing Hardware Operation”
on page 111.
If the USB port is not working
Contact the vendor of the peripheral device or check the HP notebook web site
(www.hp.com/notebooks) for the latest versions of the USB drivers and the driver for
the device.
Check the port settings in Control Panel: open the hardware Device Manager, then
double-click Universal Serial Bus Controller.
You may also want to test the USB port with diagnostics. See “Testing Hardware
Operation” on page 111.
Startup problems
If the computer doesn’t respond when you turn it on
Connect the AC adapter.
Slide the power switch to try turning on the unit.
Reset the computer by inserting a straightened paper clip into the system-off button
on the left side of the computer. Then turn it on by pressing the blue standby button.
Don’t use the touch pad while booting or resuming.
If you get no response, remove the battery and AC adapter, remove any PC cards, and
undock the computer. Then plug in the AC adapter, reset the computer using the
system-off button, and turn it on by pressing the blue standby button.
If you still get no response, call HP for assistance.
