Special Instructions for Configuring the IBM 5250
Express PC Card
The IBM 5250 Express Adapter Support Diskettes that are provided
with the IBM 5250 Express adapters include support programs that the
IBM 5250 Express PC Card might require for emulation software that
runs under DOS or Windows 3.1. For the latest information about the
support programs that are included, see the README file on Support
Diskette #2.
Changing the Adapter Configuration Using Card
Services
The Change Adapter Configuration option displays current
configuration information and lets you change the IBM 5250 Express
PC Card settings or the PCMCIA support method used.
There are two methods
of
providing support to the PCMCIA adapter.
This section provides directions for the Card Services for DOS
method. The other method, point enabling (directly programming), is
explained in "Point Enabling the Controller" on page 28. For best
results, use Card Services for DOS for PCMCIA support. Card
Services is special software that manages how the PCMCIA cards are
configured in your PC. Card Services is customized to operate with

your PC hardware and resolves configuration conflicts among
PCMCIA adapters.
Card Services is usually provided
as
device drivers by either the
manufacturer
of
the PC or the DOS operating system. For additional
information about Card Services, see the documentation provided with
your PC, your operating system, or your version
of
Card Services.
If
you are not using Card and Socket Services, you may point enable
some PCMCIA controller hardware to enable your adapter.
If
you
point enable your controller hardware instead
of
using Card Services,
you must select system interrupts, I/O port addresses, and memory
mapped addresses that the PC and other adapters are not using. You
also need to know which type
of
PCMCIA controller
is
used in your
PC and the address
of
the controller. For more information, see "Point
Enabling the Controller" on page 28.
Note: The support for point enabling might not work on every
PC.
