mirroring. The following instructions are for installing one pair of DIMMs. To
install DIMM pairs on more than one memory card, repeat steps 3 though 7 for
each memory card.
To confirm that the server supports the DIMMs that you are installing, see
http://www.ibm.com/systems/info/x86servers/serverproven/compat/us/.
To install a DIMM, complete the following steps:
1. Read “Safety” on page v and “Installation guidelines” on page 38.
2. Turn off the server and peripheral devices, and disconnect the power cords
and all external cables as necessary to replace the device.
3. Remove the server top cover (see “Removing the top cover” on page 44).

4. If you are installing DIMMs in a memory card that is already installed in the
server, remove the memory card:
a. Slide the blue release latch to the unlocked position.
b. Open the release levers on the top of the memory card.
c. While you hold the release levers open, lift the memory card out of the
server.
5. Place a memory card on a flat, static-protective surface, with the DIMM
connectors facing up.
Attention: To avoid breaking the DIMM retaining clips or damaging the
DIMM connectors, open and close the clips gently.
6. Open the retaining clips 1 on each end of the DIMM connector.
