BEFOREbeginningtheconnectionofthevariouscooling
and/orheatingmediumstotheunit.
Horizontal Unit Drain Pan Removal
CXB,CBY,CHYandCPYHorizontalmodelscomewitha
removabledrainpan.Thedrainpanshouldberemoved
beforeinstallingorservicingthevalvepackage.An
extendeddrillbitmaybenecessarytoaccessthescrews
toremovethedrainpan.
NOTE: Exact location of screws to remove drain pan may vary based
on Horizontal model.
Valve Package Installation and Maintenance
Allaccessoryvalvepackagesshouldbeinstalledas
required,andallservicevalvesshouldbecheckedfor
properoperation.
Ifcoilandvalvepackageconnectionsaretobemadewith
a“sweat”orsolderjoint,careshouldbetakentoassure
thatnocomponentsinthevalvepackagearesubjected
toahightemperaturewhichmaydamagesealsorother
materials.Manytwo-positionelectriccontrolvalves,
dependingonvalveoperation,areprovidedwithamanual
openinglever.Thislevershouldbeplacedinthe“open”
positionduringallsolderingorbrazingoperations.
Ifthevalvepackageconnectionatthecoilismadewith
aunion,thecoilsideoftheunionmustbeprevented
fromtwisting(“backedup”)duringtighteningtoprevent
damagetothecoiltubing.Over-tighteningmustbe
avoidedtopreventdistorting(“eggshaping”)theunion
sealsurfaceanddestroyingtheunion.
Thesupplyandreturnconnectionsaremarkedonthecoil
stub-outsandthevalvepackage,withan“S”meaning
supplyorinletand“R”meaningreturnoroutletindicating
owdirectiontoandfromthecoil.Bluelettersmarkthe
chilledwaterconnectionsandredlettersmarkthehot
waterorsteamconnections.Inthecaseofeld-installed
valvesandpiping,thechilledwatervalvecluster(or
expansionvalveonDXunits)shouldbeinstalledinsuch
awaythatanydrippingorsweatingiscontainedinthe
drainpanorotherdevicesuchasanoptionalextended
drainpanorfactorydriplip.Factorydriplipsareeld
installedandmaybepackagedseparatelyfromtheunit.
Factorysuppliedcoolingcoilvalvepackageswillbe
arrangedtolocateasmuchofthepackageaspossible
overastandarddriplip.
Ifnoneoftheabovefactoryaccessorieshavebeen
providedwiththeunits,adriplip(availablefromthe
factory)maystillberequiredtodirectpipingcondensate
intotheunitdrainpan.
Aftertheconnectionsarecompleted,thesystemshould
thenbetestedforleaks.Sincesomecomponentsarenot
designedtoholdpressurewithagas,hydronicsystems
shouldbetestedwithwater.Pressuretestingshouldbe
completedpriortosheetrockingorpainting.
CAUTION: All water coils must be protected
from freezing after initial lling with water.
Even if the system is drained, unit coils may still hold
enough water to cause damage when exposed to
temperatures below freezing.
Refrigerantsystemsshouldbetestedwithdrynitrogen
ratherthanairtopreventtheintroductionofmoisture
intothesystem.Intheeventthatleakingordefective
componentsarediscovered,theSalesRepresentative
mustbenotiedBEFOREanyrepairsareattempted.
Allleaksshouldberepairedbeforeproceedingwiththe
installation.
Aftersystemintegrityhasbeenestablished,thepiping
shouldbeinsulatedinaccordancewiththeproject
specications.Thisistheresponsibilityoftheinstallingor
insulationcontractor.Allchilledwaterpipingandvalves
orrefrigerantsuctionpipingnotlocatedoverdrainpans
ordriplipsmustbeinsulatedtopreventdamagefrom
sweating.Thisincludesfactoryandeldpipinginsidethe
unitcabinet.
Condensate Drain:Thedrainshouldalwaysbeconnected
andpipedtoanacceptabledisposalpoint.Forproper
moisturecarry-off,thedrainpipingshouldbeslopedaway
fromtheunitatleast1/8inchperfoot.Adraintrapmay
berequiredbylocalcodesanditisstronglyrecommended
forodorcontainment.Whenfurnished,theoptional5/8-
inchsecondaryor“tell-tale”connectionmustbepipedto
