Overview

The iM3 SP6 Ultrasonic Scaler & Micromotor is a veterinary dental unit designed for both ultrasonic scaling and polishing procedures. It is CE 0434 certified, complying with Council Directive 93/42/EEC, and meets EN60601-1 and EN60601-1-2 safety requirements.

Function Description:

The ART-SP6 unit generates power and a signal that activates the handpiece, causing the installed tip to vibrate. For ultrasonic scaling, it removes calculus and plaque during dental prophylaxis, performs general supra and sub-gingival scaling, and is used for periodontal debridement for all types of periodontal diseases and endodontic procedures. For polishing, it removes calculus and plaque, performs general supra and sub-gingival polishing, periodontal debridement, and endodontic procedures with optional bur tools. The unit features a Mode/Power control knob to switch between scaling and polishing modes and adjust power or speed. A digital display shows the current operation mode and power/micromotor speed level. A water control knob regulates water flow to the handpiece, crucial for cooling the tip and preventing overheating. The unit also includes a micro-motor socket for connecting the micro-motor, a foot switch socket, a power cord socket, an ON/OFF power button, and a Forward/Reverse switch for the micro-motor.

Usage Features:

The ART-SP6 is designed for use by trained and qualified veterinarians, technicians, and other trained personnel. It requires a shielded AC power cord plugged into a well-grounded outlet. The device should be placed on a flat, stable surface. Adequate water supply is essential during operation to cool the handpiece and piezo tip. The water control knob allows users to adjust the water flow; turning it clockwise decreases water, and counter-clockwise increases it. The scaling power can be adjusted from 1 to 50, and the micro-motor speed from 30 to 300 (x100 R.P.M.) in polishing mode. The foot switch engages the handpiece for both scaling and polishing. Different piezo tips (BS1, BS2, BS3) are available for tangential and frontal applications, with specific instructions to avoid direct contact with tooth enamel and to use slight pressure where indicated. The unit is compatible with Bonart BS-type piezo tips and other brands with comparable threads, but not Bonart BE-type tips.

Maintenance Features:

All sterilization procedures must comply with EN ISO17664 standards. After each treatment, the handpiece, tips, metal wrenches, micro-motor, straight handpiece (straight nose cone), and prophy head must be cleaned and sterilized. These components can be autoclaved at a maximum temperature of 135℃ (275℉) for up to 3 minutes, followed by air-drying for 20-30 minutes. Other sterilization methods (dry heat, radiation, ethylene oxide, gas, low-temperature plasma) are not permitted. Before sterilization, ensure the inside of the tip or wrench is completely dry by blowing air through the internal hole with a syringe to prevent stains. The micro-motor should be cleaned with an antiseptic solution, ensuring no moisture enters it, and never oiled. The prophy head should be cleaned approximately every 10 dental polishing procedures to remove hair and debris, and lubricated regularly. The housing of the main unit and the handpiece cord should be cleaned and disinfected daily with alcohol or soap and warm water. Worn-out tips should be replaced after approximately 2mm of wear (3-4 months) to maintain optimal performance. The handpiece cable should be inspected daily for damage. The manual also provides a troubleshooting guide for common issues such as the device not turning on, lack of vibration, or no water flow.
