Overview

This document describes the Immergas Zeus 24 - 28 kW boiler, a wall-mounted appliance designed for heating environments and producing domestic hot water. It is available in 24 kW and 28 kW models, with specific technical data provided for each.

Function Description

The Zeus boiler is an accumulation-type water heater with a 45-liter capacity, featuring a large coiled stainless steel heat exchanger pipe for reduced hot water production times. It is designed to operate at atmospheric pressure, heating water below boiling temperature. The boiler can be connected to a heating system and a hot water circuit that match its performance and capacity.

The boiler is equipped with an anti-Legionella thermal treatment function for the storage tank, which can be activated via the thermoregulation system. During this phase, the water temperature in the storage tank exceeds 60 °C, posing a burn hazard. Users are advised to control this DHW treatment and install a thermostatic valve at the DHW outlet if necessary to prevent burns.

The boiler supports various installation configurations:

  • Type B (open chamber and forced draught): Air intake directly from the room where the boiler is installed, with fumes expelled into an individual flue or directly outside. This configuration requires permanent room ventilation.
  • Type C (sealed chamber and forced draught): Air intake and fume expulsion occur through concentric pipes or other dedicated pipe types for sealed chamber boilers. This configuration requires an Immergas air intake and fume extraction system marked "not for condensing boilers."

The boiler features an electronic modulation system that adapts its potentiality to the actual heating demand of the house, operating within a variable gas pressure field between minimum and maximum heating power.

Usage Features

Control Panel: The control panel includes LEDs for flame presence, domestic hot water, heating function, temperature anomalies (insufficient circulation, delivery probe, ignition block, over-temperature, fumes pressure switch), and a stand-by/remote control/reset selector switch. It also features selector switches for domestic hot water temperature and heating water temperature, and a boiler manometer.

Ignition: To ignite the boiler, ensure the heating system is filled to 1-1.2 bar pressure and the gas cock is open. Turn the main selector switch to the "Domestic/Remote Friend ControlV2" or "Domestic Hot Water" position. Fixed lights on LEDs 4-8 indicate voltage presence and output water temperature.

Remote Controls and Chronothermostats (Optional):

  • On/Off Digital Chronothermostat: Allows setting two room temperatures (comfort/night), up to four weekly on/off programs, and various function modes (comfort, lower temp, anti-freeze). Powered by two 1.5V LR6 alkaline batteries.
  • Remote Friend ControlV2 (CARV2) and Digital Remote Control (CRD): These act as room chronothermostats and allow control of boiler operation and heating system information. The CARV2 also provides self-diagnosis for anomalies and adjusts system delivery temperature based on room needs. The CARV2 is fed directly by the boiler.
  • External Probe (Optional): Connects to the boiler's electrical system to automatically decrease max system delivery temperature as outside temperature increases. Works with On/Off chronothermostats and CARV2.

Programming the Circuit Board: The boiler's operation parameters can be programmed to adapt to specific needs. This includes adjusting minimum and maximum heating power, heating switch-on timer, heating ramp timing, domestic water thermostat/boiler hysteresis, circulating pump function, and gas type (Town Gas G110 - Industrial gas).

Anti-freeze Protection: The boiler has a built-in anti-freeze function that activates the pump and burner when the system water temperature drops below 4°C, stopping once it exceeds 42°C. This function is guaranteed if the boiler is fully operative, not in "block" status, and electrically powered. For prolonged absences, the system should be drained or anti-freeze substances added.

Automatic Slow Ignition Function: During switch-on, the electronic card performs an increasing gas delivery ramp of preset duration, preventing the need for calibration or preparation in various conditions.

Chimney Sweep "Function": This function forces the boiler to run at maximum output for 15 minutes, allowing technicians to check combustion parameters. It is activated by pressing the Reset key for 8-15 seconds without domestic water or heating requests.

Maintenance Features

Periodical Maintenance: Heating plants require periodical maintenance and regular energy efficiency checks in compliance with national, regional, or local provisions. Immergas recommends a yearly cleaning and maintenance contract.

System Filling: After connection, the system is filled via the filling valve. Filling should be done slowly to release air bubbles. The boiler has an automatic venting valve on the circulator (check if the cap is loose). Close radiator air vent valves only when water is delivered, and close the filling valve when the manometer indicates 1.2 bar.

Gas System Start-up: Before starting, open windows and doors, avoid sparks, bleed air from pipelines, and ensure the internal system is properly sealed.

Boiler Start-up (Lighting): For the Declaration of Conformity, ensure the internal system is sealed, gas type matches settings, correct ignition, and gas flow/pressure values comply with the manual. Check safety devices, main circuit-breaker, and intake/exhaust terminals.

Domestic Hot Water Boiler Device: The lower inspection flange allows practical control and easy internal cleaning of the boiler and coiled heat exchanger. The magnesium anode holder cap is standard for internal corrosion protection. The efficiency of the magnesium anode should be checked annually by a skilled technician.

Circulation Pump: The Zeus kW boilers have a built-in circulation pump with 3-position electric speed control. For optimal operation, especially in new systems, the pump should be used at maximum speed. If the pump is blocked after prolonged inactivity, unscrew the front cap and turn the motor shaft with a screwdriver to release it.

System Shutoff Valves (Optional Kit): Allows the boiler to be drained separately for maintenance without emptying the entire system.

System Zone Kit (Optional): For heating systems divided into zones, Immergas offers zone system kits to interlock zones with separate adjustments and maintain high water flow rates.

Polyphosphate Batching Kit (Optional): Reduces lime-scale formation and preserves heat exchange and domestic hot water production conditions.

Cleaning and Maintenance:

  • Clean the boiler casing with damp cloths and neutral detergent; avoid abrasive cleaners.
  • Do not expose the boiler to direct cooking vapours.
  • Do not touch hot fume exhaust terminals.
  • Ensure concentric air intake/flue exhaust terminals are not blocked.
  • If temporary shutdown is required, drain the heating system (if anti-freeze is not used) and shut off electrical, water, and gas supplies.
  • For work near ducting or flue extraction devices, switch off the appliance and have a qualified technician check efficiency upon completion.
  • Never clean with flammable substances.
  • Do not touch the appliance with wet hands or bare feet.
  • Do not pull electrical cables or expose the appliance to atmospheric agents.
  • The power cable must be replaced by qualified personnel if damaged.
  • Disconnect the main power switch if the appliance will not be used for a certain period.

Casing Removal: To remove the casing for maintenance, disassemble the lower cover, unscrew dashboard fasteners, unscrew two fixing screws on the casing, unhook the lower part, and pull the casing forwards and up to detach it from upper hooks.

Yearly Appliance Check and Maintenance:

  • Clean the flue side of the heat exchanger and main burner.
  • Visually check the fume hood for deterioration or corrosion.
  • Check correct lighting and operation.
  • Ensure correct calibration of the burner in domestic water and heating phases.
  • Check correct operation of control and adjustment devices (electrical main switch, system control thermostat, domestic water control thermostat).
  • Ensure the internal system is properly sealed.
  • Check the no-gas ionization flame control device (intervention time < 10 seconds).
  • Visually check for water leaks or oxidation.
  • Visually check that the water safety drain valve is not blocked.
  • Check expansion tank charge (1.0 bar) and system static pressure (1-1.2 bar).
  • Visually check that safety and control devices have not been tampered with.
  • Check integrity of the boiler Magnesium anode.
  • Check the condition and integrity of the electrical system (cables inside whipping, no blackening or burning).

Electronic Card Periodical Self-Check: During heating mode or stand-by, the function activates every 18 hours. In domestic circuit mode, it starts within 10 minutes after drawing, lasting approximately 10 seconds. During self-check, the boiler remains off.
