Function Description

At its heart, the Legend utilizes a sophisticated pneumatic system to achieve consistent and accurate paintball propulsion. The bolt, made from durable Delrin, is designed for high-speed operation and minimal wear, ensuring smooth cycling and reduced paint breakage. A key feature is the dual optical eye (beam break) system, which detects the presence of a paintball in the breech, preventing dry firing and ensuring optimal feeding. This anti-chop system is crucial for maintaining a high rate of fire without damaging paintballs. The marker operates on compressed air or nitrogen, with an inline regulator controlling the operating pressure, typically between 180-280 psig, to fine-tune velocity and air efficiency.

The electronic circuit board, powered by a 9-volt battery, manages the marker's various functions, including firing modes, dwell, debounce, and eye settings. An LED indicator provides visual feedback on the marker's status, such as power on/off, eye system status, battery level, and programming modes. The solenoid valve, an integral part of the pneumatic system, is energized for a specific "dwell" time to control the airflow that propels the paintball.

Usage Features

The Legend offers extensive customization to suit individual player preferences and game requirements.

Power On/Off: The marker is easily turned on by pressing the button on the back of the trigger frame for one second, indicated by an orange LED that then blinks green (normal mode) or red (competition mode). To turn off, the button is held for two seconds until the LED blinks red.
Eye System Control: The eye system can be bypassed for "dry firing" by pressing the on/off button for half a second, indicated by a slowly blinking orange LED. Repeating this action re-enables the eyes. This feature is vital for practicing trigger pull techniques without paint.
Bolt Removal and Replacement: The bolt can be quickly removed for cleaning by pulling up the bolt pin and sliding the bolt backward. Reassembly involves aligning the bolt pin with the ram's groove and pushing it down. Regular cleaning of the bolt is recommended to prevent dirt and grit accumulation, which can accelerate wear.
Battery Replacement: Accessing the 9-volt battery involves removing the left grip panel and carefully detaching the battery terminal.
Trigger Adjustment: The trigger features three 6/32 set screws for comprehensive adjustment:
- Top Setscrew (a): Controls the return magnet's force, affecting trigger reset.
- Middle Setscrew (b): Adjusts the micro switch sensitivity, determining where the trigger activates the switch during its stroke.

High Pressure vs. Low Pressure: The Legend is designed to accommodate different playing styles. Low pressure with higher dwell settings is ideal for shooting brittle paint, while higher pressure with lower dwell settings improves air efficiency.
LED Menu and Programming: The LED provides feedback on various programmable settings:
- Dwell: The duration the solenoid valve is energized, adjustable in 0.1ms increments (default 10.0ms).
- Debounce: The time the trigger switch must be stable in the up position before detecting another pull, filtering unwanted trigger pulls (default 10ms).
- Eye Mode: Four modes are available:
  - Eye Mode 1 (Bypass Mode): Anti-chop disabled, max 13 bps.
  - Eye Mode 2: Eyes enabled, uses MROF cap, bolt not monitored.
  - Eye Mode 3 (Force Mode): Eyes enabled, monitors bolt position, unlimited MROF.
  - Eye Mode 4 (Simulate Mode): Ball simulated in breech, allows dry firing at full speed.
- BIP Delay (Ball In Place Delay): A programmable delay between eye detection and bolt forward travel, preventing chops with slower loaders (default 3ms).
- MROF Cap (Maximum Rate of Fire): Sets the maximum cycling speed in Eye Mode 2 (default 20 bps).
- Eye Power: Adjusts the optical eye's power to see through paint or debris (default 20).
- Firing Mode: Selectable modes include Semi-Auto (NPPL Legal), 3-shot ramping (PSP Legal), and 3-shot full auto (NXL Legal).
Tournament Lock: A specific procedure involving shorting pins on the circuit board allows the marker to be locked into a competition-compliant mode, indicated by a slowly blinking red LED.
Programming Procedure: Settings are adjusted by entering programming mode (holding the trigger while turning on), then cycling through features by pulling the trigger. The LED flashes to indicate current settings, and trigger pulls are used to set new values. A complete reset to factory defaults is also possible by holding the trigger for six seconds.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the Legend's longevity and performance.

General Care and Cleaning:
- External cleaning should be done with a synthetic oil-moistened cloth only. Hydrocarbon-based oils (e.g., WD40, Vaseline, engine oil) must be avoided as they can severely damage internal seals.
- The ram shaft and accessible internal parts should be lightly lubricated with oil, not grease, before every event or at least every 20,000 shots.
- The marker should never be immersed in water to prevent damage to electronics.
Ball Detent Replacement: The two anti-double ball detents, located beneath the eye covers, can be removed for cleaning or replacement.
LEGEND Eye Service: The optical eye system can be accessed by removing a 4-40 screw holding the eye cover. The eye can then be cleaned or replaced. Care must be taken not to pull on the eye wires; a small pick or screwdriver should be used to pop the eye out.
Exhaust Valve/Cup Seal Stem Removal: The exhaust valve and cup seal are consumable items. Replacement involves unplugging the solenoid and eye connectors, removing the trigger frame and front block, and then unscrewing the black exhaust valve from the valve stem. Reassembly follows the reverse order.
Ram Removal and Lubrication: The ram requires regular oiling. This involves removing the rear frame screw, bolt, and then pushing the ram housing back through the slot under the bolt using an Allen wrench. The ram (stainless steel part) is separated from the ram housing (aluminum part), cleaned, and lightly oiled. Grease should not be used. During reassembly, ensure the ram housing is correctly oriented with holes facing the bottom of the body.
