The Infinity Reference Standard (RS) series comprises floorstanding speaker systems, specifically models RS-4 and RS-5, designed for both stereo and home theater applications. These speakers are engineered with efficient drivers to deliver maximum stereo output with minimal amplifier power. A key feature for home theater integration is their magnetic shielding, which allows them to be placed close to a television monitor without causing picture distortion.

Usage Features:
Installation of Feet:
The speakers come with adjustable feet designed for both carpeted and hard-surface floors.
- Each accessory pack includes four feet (with spike/round ends), four locking nuts, four nylon domes, and one wrench.
- To install, lay the speaker on its side and locate the four threaded holes on the bottom.
- For carpeted floors, screw the round end of a foot into each hole and hand-tighten a nut, leaving a minimum of ⅝ inch of exposed spike. For thicker carpets, the exposed spike length can be increased up to 1⅛ inches.
- For hard-surface floors, screw the spike end into each hole and leave ⅝ inch of the round end exposed.
- Carefully flip the speaker upright onto its feet.
- Adjust the feet to ensure the speaker is level, then tighten each nut with the provided wrench. For hard surfaces like wood floors, slip a nylon dome onto each round end for protection.
Speaker Placement (Stereo):
Optimal placement is crucial for achieving the best bass level and stereo imaging.
- For best results, try placing the speakers closer together than the distance to the listening area.
- Experiment with speaker positioning:
- Moving speakers towards corners generally increases bass.
- Angling speakers slightly inward towards the listening position can improve stereo imaging.
- The amount of bass and stereo image quality are influenced by room size, shape, construction materials, listener position, and speaker position.
- If there's too much bass, move the speakers away from nearby walls. Conversely, if more bass is desired, place them closer to the walls.
- If nearby reflecting surfaces adversely affect stereo imaging, angle the speakers inward until the desired effect is achieved.
Speaker Placement (Home Theater):
RS-4 and RS-5 speakers are suitable for front left and right channels in a home theater setup.
- Place one speaker on the left and one on the right, along either side of the television monitor.
- Due to magnetic shielding, they can be placed very close to the TV without concern for picture distortion.
- For a complete home theater experience, it is recommended to add a center-channel speaker, a pair of rear-surround speakers, and a subwoofer for enhanced bass impact.
Wiring the System:
- Important: Ensure all equipment is turned off before making any connections.
- Use #18 gauge speaker wire (or #16 gauge for runs over 25 feet) with polarity coding. The side of the wire with a ridge or other coding typically indicates negative polarity (-).
- RS Series speakers feature color-coded terminals. To ensure proper polarity, connect the positive (+) terminal (red) on the amplifier/receiver/television to the positive (+) terminal on each speaker. Similarly, connect the negative (-) terminals (black) in the same way.
- Crucial: Do not reverse polarities (+ to - or - to +) during connections, as this will lead to poor imaging and diminished bass response.
- Refer to the owner's manuals of your amplifier, receiver, or television for specific connection procedures.
Final Adjustments:
- After wiring, set the system volume to a minimum level, then power on your audio system.
- Play a favorite music or video segment and gradually increase the volume to a comfortable level.
- You should hear balanced audio reproduction across the entire frequency spectrum. If not, check all wiring connections or consult an Authorized Infinity Dealer.
Maintenance Features:
Care of Your Speaker System:
- The wood-vinyl finish of the RS Series cabinets requires no routine maintenance.
- To remove fingerprints or dust, use a soft cloth dampened with water only.
- Clean the grille by gently vacuuming or wiping it with a damp cloth.
- Note: Do not use any cleaning products or polishes on the cabinet or grille.
The Infinity Reference Standard RS-4 and RS-5 speakers are designed for high-quality audio reproduction in various home audio setups, offering robust performance and user-friendly features for installation and maintenance.
