This document describes the functions and usage of an Android phone.
The phone features an earphone jack, volume button, and front camera on the top and front. The back of the phone includes a camera and flash. On the bottom, there is a USB jack, fingerprint sensor, and speaker. The power button is located on the side.
About Android
An Android phone can perform many functions similar to a computer, allowing users to customize it to their needs, receive information, and enjoy entertainment. Users can add and delete applications, enhance functionality, download apps and games from the Android market, and integrate applications with personal data and online accounts for tasks like backing up appointments and social networking.
Applications
An application is a phone program designed to help users perform specific tasks, such as making calls, taking photos, or downloading more applications.
Getting Started
To insert a SIM card and memory card:
- Push the holder in the SIM card slots next to the thimble hole until it pops out.
- Place the SIM cards face down, aligning them with the opening of the holder.
- Insert the holder into the SIM card slots of the phone properly.
Charging the Phone
To charge the battery, plug the charger connector into the phone's USB interface and the other end into an AC power socket. The battery symbol will show the charging status with scrolling indicators. Once the scroll bars are steady, the battery is fully charged. Disconnect the charger from the phone or the AC power socket.
Key Tips
- Power/Lock Key:
- From a powered-off state, press and hold to turn on the phone.
- From a powered-on state, press and hold to access phone options (Power off, Reboot, Airplane mode).
- To save battery, prevent accidental touches, or wipe smudges, press the Power/Lock key to put the touch screen to sleep.
- To wake up the touch screen, press the Power/Lock key again and drag the lock icon to the right to unlock.
- Volume Keys: Press to adjust the volume. When playing music or video, these keys control media volume.
- Menu Key: Opens a menu with options related to the current screen or application.
- Home Key: Press to close any menu or app and return to the Home screen. If viewing an extended Home screen, it returns to the central Home screen. Press and hold the Recent key to view recently used applications.
- Back Key: Press to return to the previous screen.
Touch Gestures
- Touch & Hold: To select an icon or option, touch and hold it. This can open special functions or additional options. For example, in the Music library, touching and holding an artist, song, or album will reveal options.
- Drag: To scroll through a list or move items slowly, drag across the touchscreen. For instance, on the Home screen, touch the Contacts icon, then drag the list up or down to scroll.
- Slide: To scroll quickly, move your finger left or right across the touchscreen (drag quickly and release).
- Double-touch: Quickly touch twice to zoom in or out. For example, double-touch a picture in the Gallery to zoom.
Screen
The Home screen provides a central hub for all your latest information, appearing when you turn on the phone. It functions like a computer desktop, offering a gateway to the phone's main features. You can customize it with shortcuts, widgets, folders, and wallpapers. Slide the Home screen left or right to view more content on other panels, where you can add additional shortcuts, widgets, and folders.
Checking Notifications and Ongoing Activities
Drag down the status bar to open the notification panel and access more information. This allows you to view missed calls or open running applications like the music player.
The toolkits provide quick access to common applications such as Bluetooth and WLAN. Open the Notifications panel by dragging down from the top of the screen to access these tools.
Status Icons
Various icons may appear on your screen to indicate status:
- SIM Network signal level
- Headset is inserted
- Indicates battery capacity
- Bluetooth
- Unread message
- WLAN is connected
- Missed calls
- Airplane mode is activated
- Alarm is activated
- USB is connected
- Vibrate
- Silent
Options menus contain tools relevant to the current screen or application. These menus are accessed by pressing the Menu key. Note that not all screens have options menus; pressing the Menu key on such a screen will have no effect. These menus contain items that apply to the current screen or the application as a whole.
A widget is a small application displayed on the Home screen that provides information (like an Analog clock) or direct functionality (like a Music player). Widgets are available in the Android widgets library.
- To add a widget:
- Touch and hold the Home screen or the menu key.
- Touch the WIDGETS tab to see widget options.
- Touch and hold a widget icon, then drag it to the desired location on the Home screen.
- To remove a widget: Touch and hold the widget icon on the Home screen until it vibrates, then drag it to the remove tab.
Arranging Your Home Screen
- To move an item: Touch and hold an item on the Home screen until it vibrates, then drag it to the desired location.
- To organize apps with folders: Stack one app on top of another to create a new folder.
- To name a folder:
- Touch the apps stack on the Home screen to open it.
- Touch the "Unnamed Folder" to reveal the name field.
- Edit the folder name.
- To move application shortcuts to a folder: Touch and hold the item on the Home screen until it vibrates, then stack it on top of another app to create a folder.
- To move application shortcuts from a folder to the Home screen: Touch and hold the item in a folder until it vibrates, then drag it out of the folder.
Changing the Background of Your Home Screen
You can set Live wallpaper, Internal wallpaper, Gallery wallpaper, or Downloaded wallpaper. Touch and hold the Home screen to select Wallpapers, then choose from Gallery, Live wallpapers, Internal wallpaper, or Downloaded Wallpapers. Set your selection as the wallpaper. You can also use the camera to take a photo and set it as wallpaper.
The Application menu lists all installed applications. It may extend beyond the screen length, requiring you to slide up and down to view all content.
- To open the Application menu:
- On the Home screen, touch the Launcher icon.
- Touch the APPS tab.
- To uninstall an application: Touch and hold the shortcut icon on the Home screen until it vibrates, then drag it to the Uninstall tab.
Communication
Phone
Touch the Phone icon on the Home screen. In the dial interface, input a number and touch the Dial icon to make a call.
- During a call:
- To answer an incoming call: Drag towards the right side as indicated on the screen.
- To reject an incoming call: Slide towards the left side as indicated on the screen.
- Options available during a call: These options are visible only when a call is in progress. You can put a call on hold, initiate a phone conference, or mute your microphone.
- Go to the Dial pad.
- Turn on/off the speaker.
- Mute your voice so the other party cannot hear you.
- Place a call on hold.
- Open the dial pad to dial a second call.
- Record the call.
- End the call.
Messages
You can compose, send, and receive text messages, as well as multimedia messages containing pictures, videos, and audio. When viewing messages, they are displayed as conversations, grouping all messages to and from a particular person.
- To write a message:
- From your Home screen, touch the Messages icon or find it in Application menu > Messages.
- Touch the "New message" icon, then find and mark the contact name. To add multiple contacts, mark each desired recipient. You can also manually enter the recipient's phone number.
- After marking contacts, touch the checkmark.
- Touch "Type message" to enter your text.
- To insert a media file, touch the "+" icon and select an attachment.
- Send the message and select the SIM.
- To delete a message:
- Touch and hold the message.
- Select the conversations you want to delete.
- Touch "Delete," then touch "Delete" in the pop-up menu.
- To forward a message:
- Touch the conversation containing the message you want to forward.
- Touch and hold the message.
- Touch "Forward" in the menu that opens.
- Add recipient(s) by touching the contact icon, then finding and marking the contact name. You can also manually enter the recipient's phone number.
- Select the SIM to send the message.
The Contacts application allows you to store and manage all your contacts.
- To add a contact:
- From your Home screen, touch the Contacts icon or find it in Application menu > Contacts.
- Touch the "+" icon.
- Select the storage path for the new contact or add a new account.
- Enter the contact's information.
- After finishing, touch the checkmark.
- To search for a contact:
- Touch the search icon.
- Input the first character of the name you are searching for. All matching records will be displayed. Search results will vary based on input.
You can assign contacts to groups for quicker access, such as VIP, schoolmates, friends, family, or co-workers.
- To create a new group:
- Touch the menu icon.
- Touch the "Groups" tab.
- Touch the "Add group" icon.
- Input the group information, then touch the checkmark.
- To assign a contact to a group:
- Touch the menu icon.
- Touch the "Groups" tab.
- Touch the group to which you want to assign contacts.
- Touch the menu icon, then choose "Edit" from the menu.
- Touch "Type person's name" to input the contact's name. The corresponding contact entry will pop up; select the desired contact entry.
- After finishing editing, touch the checkmark.
Camera
The camera allows you to take photos or record videos. You can hold the camera horizontally or vertically. Share photos or videos with friends or upload them to a web service.
- Functions:
- Preview captured pictures or videos.
- Take photos.
- Record videos.
- Switch between the front and back cameras.
Gallery
The Gallery allows you to view photos and play videos downloaded or taken with the phone's camera. You can also share photos and videos via messages, Bluetooth, or email.
- Usage:
- Touch an album to open it and view its contents.
- Touch a picture or video in an album to view it.
- Actions:
- Share via various ways: Touch the share icon.
- Delete: Touch the delete icon.
- When viewing a picture, touching the menu icon will reveal additional options such as delete, slideshow, edit, crop, details, and print.
Music
Music Library
The Music library offers multiple categories for selection:
- All Songs: Displays all songs.
- Recently Added: Displays recently added songs.
- Most Played: Displays most played songs.
- My Favorites: Displays favorite songs.
- Function Bar: Tap the drop-down arrow to reveal the function bar. Drag the bar to view all icons.
- Add to: Add to playlist.
- Set as: Set as Ringtone.
- Info: Look for details of the song.
- Share: Share with Bluetooth, Email, and Messaging.
- Delete: Delete the music.
Music Player
The music player includes controls for playback:
- Play/Pause: Touch the play/pause icon.
- Previous/Next: Touch the previous/next icons.
- Rewind/Forward: Touch and hold the rewind/forward icons.
- Volume adjust: Press the Volume keys.
- Now playing: Touch the now playing icon.
- Shuffle: Touch the shuffle icon.
- Repeat: Touch the repeat icon to repeat all songs; touch again to repeat the current song.
You can return to the main library screen from the music player by pressing the Menu key and touching "Library." Touching the menu icon will also reveal additional options such as Library, Party shuffle, and Add to playlist.
FM Radio
The phone has an in-built FM Radio. You can listen to FM radio stations and add them to a channel list. An earphone must be plugged in to act as the antenna. You can listen through the earphone or the phone's speaker.
- Functions:
- Radio on/off button.
- Record.
- Channel list.
- To fine-tune the FM frequency.
- To search for the next effective frequency.
Calendar
The phone's calendar helps manage your schedule and track important events. After entering the calendar function menu, you can select the year, month, and date.
- To set the calendar view:
- From your Home screen, touch the Launcher icon, then find Application menu > Calendar.
- Touch the date on the left corner of the screen.
- Select day, week, month, or agenda from the menu that opens.
- To add a calendar event:
- Touch "New" in the menu that opens.
- Enter the name, location, time, and description for the event.
- Select a reminder for the event.
- After finishing, touch the checkmark.
Clock
The clock displays time and date. It also offers four additional functions: Alarm, World Time, Timer, and Stopwatch.
Calculator
The calculator application performs basic arithmetic functions: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Usage:
- Touch the Launcher icon, then from the Application menu, touch "Calculator."
- Touch the number pad to perform calculations.
- Slide your finger left on the touch screen to switch to the advanced panel.
WLAN Networks
WLAN is a wireless networking technology providing internet access up to 100 meters. To use WLAN, you connect to a wireless access point or "hotspot." Some hotspots are open, allowing direct connection, while others are hidden or secured, requiring configuration.
- Tip: Turn off WLAN when not in use to extend battery life.
- To connect to a WLAN Network:
- Touch the Launcher icon, then from the Application menu, touch "Settings."
- Touch "Wi-Fi."
- Check WLAN to turn it on. The phone will scan for available WLAN networks and display their names. Secured networks are indicated by a Lock icon.
- Touch a network to connect. If secured, you will be prompted to enter a password or other credentials.
- To receive notifications: By default, when WLAN is on, you receive status bar notifications when your phone detects an open WLAN network.
- Turn on WLAN if it's not already on.
- In the WLAN list screen, press the Menu key to open Advanced options, then check "Network notification." You can uncheck this option to stop receiving notifications.
Bluetooth
Bluetooth is a short-range wireless communication technology for exchanging information over about 10 meters.
- To turn Bluetooth On/Off:
- Touch the Launcher icon, then from the Application menu, touch "Settings."
- Touch "Bluetooth."
- Check or uncheck Bluetooth to turn it on or off.
- Important: Go to Bluetooth settings and ensure the option for your phone to be detected by other devices is checked.
- To pair with Bluetooth Devices: You must pair your phone with a device before connecting. Once paired, they remain paired unless you unpair them.
- Touch the Launcher icon, then from the Application menu, touch "Settings."
- Touch "Bluetooth."
- If Bluetooth is not on, check Bluetooth to turn it on. Your phone will scan for and display the IDs of all available Bluetooth devices in range.
- If the desired device is not in the list, touch "SEARCHING."
- Touch the ID of the desired device in the list to pair it.
Precaution
- Safe Power On: Read and observe terms. Do not use your mobile phone where it is forbidden or could cause disturbance/danger.
- Disturbance: All mobile phone performances might be disturbed.
- Safe Transportation: Observe local laws and regulations. Do not use your mobile phone while driving. Consider safe transportation first when driving.
- Hospital Use: Turn off in hospitals. Follow limitations. Switch off near medical instruments.
- Airplane Use: Turn off on an airplane. Follow limitations. Do not use your mobile phone on an airplane.
- Gasoline Station Use: Turn off at gasoline stations. Do not use near filling stations or around fuels/chemicals.
- Exposure Area: Turn off around exposure areas. Observe limitations and do not use near areas where explosions can occur.
- After Sales Service: Use qualified service. Only a qualified technician can install or repair your phone. Contact the authorized service center for phone failure.
- Proper Use: Use your mobile phone only in the correct location as described. If possible, avoid touching the antenna area.
- Waterproof: Your mobile phone is not waterproof. Keep it away from water.
- Connect to Other Devices: Read the user manual of the device for detailed security instructions before connecting. Do not connect to incompatible products.
- Accessories and Batteries: Only use authorized accessories and batteries. Do not connect to incompatible manufacturers or products.
- Backup: Remember to make a backup or keep a written record of all important information saved on your mobile phone.
- SOS Emergency Calls: Ensure your mobile phone is switched on and in a service area. In idle mode, input the SOS number, then press the Dial Key. Advise your location and do not hang up without permission.
Note:
- Risk of explosion if battery is replaced by an incorrect type. Dispose of used batteries according to instructions. Return waste and used batteries to the supplier or specified recovery site.
- Do not use the phone around volatile oil, which may cause fire, breakdown, or damage.
- Do not disassemble the phone, battery, charger, or internal components yourself.
- If the phone gets wet, unplug all cables, turn off the phone (hold down the power button and click the red button on the screen) before cleaning, and allow it to dry thoroughly before turning it on again. Do not attempt to dry the phone with an external heat source, such as a microwave oven or hair dryer.
