Overview

This document describes the Insignia Dual-Zone Wine and Beverage Cooler (model NS-BC2ZSS1), a refrigeration appliance designed for storing wine bottles and beverage cans. It features two separate compartments, each with independent temperature control, allowing for optimal storage conditions for different types of beverages.

Function Description

The Insignia Dual-Zone Wine and Beverage Cooler is designed to store up to 21 standard 750 ml wine bottles in one compartment and up to 64 standard 355 ml beverage cans in the other. This dual-zone capability allows users to maintain different temperature settings for wine and other beverages simultaneously. The electronic temperature control with an LED control panel enables independent adjustment of the temperature for each compartment, ranging from 34°F to 64°F (1°C to 18°C). The wine zone specifically operates between 41°F and 64°F (5°C to 18°C), while the beverage zone operates between 34°F and 64°F (1°C to 18°C).

The cooler is equipped with a circulation fan in each compartment to ensure even temperature distribution. It features a single-layer, energy-efficient Low-E glass door, which helps maintain internal temperatures and reduce energy consumption. Internal lights in each zone assist in selecting beverages, and these lights can be switched on or off via the control panel. The appliance also includes lockable doors, providing security for the stored contents.

Usage Features

Before initial use, the cooler should stand upright for approximately six hours to allow the cooling system to stabilize after transportation. The exterior and interior packing should be removed, and the surfaces cleaned with a soft, dry cloth and lukewarm water, respectively.

The cooler can be used as a built-in or free-standing unit. It should be placed on a strong, level surface away from direct sunlight and heat sources to ensure optimal performance. Ambient temperatures between 68°F (20°C) and 90°F (32°C) are recommended for efficient operation; the cooler is not designed for use in garages or other uncontrolled outdoor environments.

Installation of the handles involves placing the cooler on its back, positioning the handles on the mounting studs, and tightening the set screws with a hex key. The appliance is front-vented, and it is crucial not to block the front air vent to prevent overheating and ensure proper energy usage.

For built-in installations, specific clearance requirements must be met. It is recommended to leave at least two to four inches (5-10 cm) between the wall and the appliance if placed next to a wall or in a corner, to allow the door to open more than 90 degrees for full shelf extension. If the electrical outlet is in an adjacent cabinet, a 1.5-inch (3.8 cm) diameter hole is needed to route the power cord, with the hole edge covered by a bushing or grommet if the cabinet wall is metal.

Leveling the cooler is important for proper door closure and sealing, preventing cooling, frost, or moisture issues. This is achieved by adjusting the leveling feet. The appliance must be properly grounded using its 3-prong plug, which should be inserted into a properly grounded outlet. Extension cords or ungrounded adapters should not be used.

To turn on the cooler, press the power button; the display and indicators will blink, and an audible beep will sound before the compressor starts. The unit can be manually set to "Standby" mode by pressing and holding the power button for approximately three seconds. Temperature adjustments are made using the increase/decrease buttons, with the display blinking to indicate adjustment. The temperature display can be switched between Fahrenheit (°F) and Celsius (°C) by pressing and holding both temperature adjustment buttons simultaneously for three to five seconds.

The wine compartment allows for alternate positioning of bottles on the upper six shelves to accommodate three 750 ml bottles per shelf, plus three bottles on the bottom shelf, totaling 21 wine bottles per zone (42 for both). Shelves can be removed for larger bottles. The beverage compartment's top three shelves can hold 18, 355 ml cans each, with 10 cans on the bottom, for a total of 64 beverage cans. Shelves can be removed by tilting one side upward and gently pulling them out. When replacing shelves, ensure they are securely resting on the support brackets.

The cooler includes a memory function, which restores the previously set temperatures for both zones after a power outage.

Maintenance Features

The cooler is designed for minimal cleaning and maintenance. For regular cleaning, wipe the cabinet with a mild detergent and warm water, then dry with a soft cloth. Avoid using gasoline, benzine, thinner, ammonia, alcohol, abrasive cleaners, or sharp objects, as these can damage the finish.

To clean the interior, turn off and unplug the cooler, remove all beverages, and wash the inside with a warm, damp cloth soaked in a solution of one quart of lukewarm water and two tablespoons of baking soda. Keep the door gasket clean to maintain efficiency. Dry the interior and exterior with a soft cloth.

The appliance features an automatic defrost function, eliminating the need for manual defrosting. Defrost water is channeled into a drip tray above the compressor, where it evaporates due to heat transfer.

The cooler has several alarm features:

  • Door ajar alarm: Sounds if a door is left open for five minutes.
  • Temperature alarms and error codes:
    • "HI" error code and alarm if the inner cabinet temperature exceeds 73°F (23°C) for one hour.
    • "LO" error code and alarm if the inner cabinet temperature drops below 32°F (0°C).
    • "CL" error code, alarm, and appliance shutdown if the inner cabinet temperature remains at 32°F (0°C) for more than 30 minutes, to prevent freezing.

For storing the cooler, turn it off, unplug it, remove all beverages, clean it, and leave the door slightly ajar to prevent condensation, mold, or odors. When moving the cooler, turn it off, unplug it, remove beverages, tape down loose items, turn up the leveling feet, tape the doors shut, and protect the exterior with a blanket. Ensure the cooler remains in an upright position during transport. If it must be placed on its back or side, allow it to remain upright for six hours before plugging it in.

In case of a power failure, most are corrected within a few hours and should not affect the temperature significantly if the door is kept closed. If the power outage is prolonged, take steps to protect the contents. Wait three to five minutes before restarting the appliance after a power interruption.

For disposal, the appliance should be taken to an appropriate waste collection point for recycling electrical components, in accordance with federal and local regulations regarding refrigerants and flammable gas.

Tips for saving energy include locating the cooler in the coolest area of the room, avoiding overloading, minimizing door openings, and ensuring adequate ventilation.
