The RCT600 Countertop Water Filtration System is a dedicated appliance designed to provide high-quality drinking water for residential use. Its primary function is to purify tap water through a multi-stage filtration process, delivering clean, healthy, and tasty water directly from your existing faucet. This system is particularly suitable for campers, vacation homes, rental properties, or any situation where installing a separate under-sink faucet might not be feasible or desired.
The RCT600 operates on a multi-stage filtration principle to effectively remove impurities from tap water. The system includes a PAC composite filter, an RO membrane filter, and an activated carbon filter. Tap water first enters the system, passing through the PAC composite filter (Stage 1), which likely handles larger particles and initial chemical reduction. Following this, the water proceeds to the RO membrane filter (Stage 2), the core of the purification process, responsible for removing a wide range of dissolved solids and contaminants. Finally, the water goes through the activated carbon filter (Stage 3) for final polishing, improving taste and odor before being dispensed as purified water. A portion of the incoming water is designated as waste water, carrying away the rejected contaminants from the RO membrane. This comprehensive filtration ensures that the water you consume is significantly cleaner and safer.
The RCT600 is designed for convenient countertop installation, connecting directly to your existing kitchen faucet. This eliminates the need for complex plumbing modifications, making it an ideal solution for temporary residences or those who prefer a non-permanent setup. The system comes pre-assembled with filters and tubing already installed, simplifying the initial setup process.
Installation involves replacing your faucet's aerator with a three-way feed water valve using either a standard 55/64" adapter or an all-purpose adapter, depending on your faucet's size. Plumber's tape is used to ensure a tight, leak-free connection. The system's red tubing connects to the "in" port of the adapter, while the blue tubing connects to the "out" port, leading to the purified water outlet. A white tubing serves as the waste water drain line, which is secured to the sink sidewall with an included suction disk.
Operating the system is straightforward. To use regular tap water, you turn the handle on the feed water valve to the "on" position. To obtain reverse osmosis water, the handle is turned to the "off" position, directing water through the purification system. Before initial consumption, it is crucial to rinse the entire system for at least 30 minutes to flush out any residual impurities or carbon fines. The tankless design means you get fresh, filtered water on demand without the need for a storage tank, contributing to a more compact footprint. The system is rated for a high daily output, ensuring a continuous supply of purified water for your household needs.
Regular maintenance, primarily filter replacement, is essential to ensure the RCT600 continues to perform optimally and deliver high-quality water. The system's design facilitates relatively easy filter changes.
To replace filters, you first turn off the water supply and drain any remaining water from the system. The outer case of the system is removed by unscrewing six screws on the edge with a Philips screwdriver, granting access to the internal filters.
The PAC composite filter and post carbon filter utilize ¼” inline quick fittings on both ends. To remove these filters, you first pop out the lock clip, then press the fitting ring with one hand while pulling the tubing out with the other. This quick-connect mechanism simplifies the process of detaching and reattaching the tubing.
Replacing the reverse osmosis membrane involves a few additional steps. After removing the tubing from the quick connect fitting on the membrane housing, a housing wrench (included in the package) is used to twist off the housing cap in a counter-clockwise direction. The old membrane can then be pulled out; pliers may be helpful due to water pressure. It's recommended to clean and rinse the membrane housing with running water before inserting the new membrane, ensuring the end with the black rubber seal faces out. After placing the new membrane, the housing cap is reattached, ensuring the o-rings are properly seated, and hand-tightened, followed by an additional ½ to ¾ turn with the housing wrench.
After any filter replacement, it is vital to flush the system by letting water run for at least 30 minutes before consuming the filtered water. This helps to condition the new filters and remove any loose carbon fines or air from the system. The manual provides a recommended filter changing schedule: 6-12 months for the PAC composite filter, 24-36 months for the RO membrane filter, and 12 months for the activated carbon filter. Monitoring water quality with a TDS meter is also recommended to determine the optimal filter change intervals based on specific water conditions. The system is designed for durability, but proper maintenance ensures its longevity and consistent performance. In case of any issues or leaks, the manual provides troubleshooting steps and directs users to contact iSpring customer service for technical support.
