Downloading the Necessary Drivers
The drivers required are not included with the printer. If the printer is a USB printer, you will
need to download a USB driver installation. Download the latest drivers from the VSI FTP Site
and save them to a local or shared network drive.
USB Driver Install – Download the Release 5.0.1.1.zip file. Please contact Vermont Systems,
Inc. to obtain the current FTP login credentials and download it from
ftp:vermontsystems.com\File Updates And Drivers\Ithaca_610_280_USB
Printer Driver – You must use a generic text printer driver.
Color Image Converter (4.5) – (PJColor utility to load logo to printer memory) Download the
100-02379v4_5_0.exe file (or latest) from:
http://www.transact-tech.com/tsg/280utilities.html
Note: You need the color image converter only if you plan to print a logo on receipts.
Installing the Printer
The two sections below describe installing the Ithaca 610 and iTherm 280 on a 32-bit workstation,
including Windows 7. Use the section that describes your Ithaca 610/iTherm 280—Parallel/Serial or USB.
For installation on a Windows 7 64-bit workstation, click here.
To Install a Parallel or Serial Ithaca 610 or iTherm 280
1 Install a Generic/Text Printer driver.
2 Assign the printer to the appropriate port.
3 Perform a test print to make sure the printer functions.
4 If you want a logo to print on the receipts, proceed to the Install LOGO to Printer section on page 4..
To Install a USB Ithaca 610 or iTherm 280
Note: The USB Ithaca 610 and iTherm 280 printers will not work in a Windows 98 environment.
Note: Do NOT plug printer into USB port at this time.
1 Unzip the file Release 5.0.1.1.zip to a temp location on the PC where the printer will be attached.
Double click the file TransactTVSInstaller.exe.
Note: Make your Install/Uninstall selection appropriately. If this is the first installation of an Ithaca 610
or iTherm 280 on this workstation, choose Install New Driver. If an Ithaca/iTherm has been installed
on this workstation previously, VSI recommends Uninstall old driver and then Install New Driver (as
opposed to the Uninstall/Install single radio set option).
For assistance with the driver installation, refer to the TransactVTSInstaller.doc and/or the Readme.txt
files that are included in theRelease5.0.1.1.zip directory.
2 When the driver installation completes, turn the printer on and plug it into a USB port on the host
computer.
3 Windows will detect the printer and will walk you through a driver install.
4 Verify that the TransAct Virtual Serial Port was installed – go to the Windows Device Manager and
expand the Ports section. You should see an entry for TransAct.
