Overview

This document provides assembly instructions, warnings, and warranty information for the DV601B4 Windsor Lifetime Crib, which can be converted into a day bed and a full-size bed.

Function Description:

The DV601B4 Windsor Lifetime Crib is a versatile piece of nursery furniture designed to adapt to a child's growth. It functions primarily as a crib for infants, providing a safe sleeping environment with adjustable mattress positions. As the child grows, it can be converted into a day bed, offering an open-sided sleeping solution suitable for toddlers. Further conversion allows it to become a full-size bed, accommodating older children or even adults, extending its utility over many years. This multi-functional design aims to provide a long-term sleeping solution, reducing the need to purchase new beds as the child ages.

Usage Features:

  • Crib Mode:

    • Safety First: The crib is designed with safety as a paramount concern, featuring warnings against suffocation from soft bedding, pillows, comforters, or additional padding. It also cautions against placing the crib near windows where cords from blinds or drapes could pose a strangulation risk.
    • Adjustable Mattress Support: The mattress support has four adjustable positions, allowing parents to lower the mattress as the child grows and becomes more mobile, preventing them from climbing out. When the child can pull to a standing position, the mattress should be set to the lowest position, and bumper pads, large toys, or other objects that could serve as steps should be removed.
    • Size Requirements: Any mattress used in the crib must be at least 27-1/4 inches by 51-5/8 inches (69cm by 131cm) with a minimum thickness of 4 inches (10cm) but not exceeding 6 inches (15cm). This ensures a snug fit, preventing infants from suffocating in gaps between the crib sides and a too-small mattress.
    • Discontinuation of Use: The crib should no longer be used when the child is able to climb out or reaches a height of 35 inches (90 cm).
    • SIDS Prevention: Pediatricians recommend placing healthy infants on their backs to sleep to reduce the risk of SIDS, unless otherwise advised by a physician.
    • Strangulation Prevention: Warnings are provided against placing strings around a child's neck (e.g., hood strings, pacifier cords), suspending strings over the crib, or attaching strings to toys. All fasteners must be tightened to prevent body parts or clothing from getting trapped.
    • Assembly Guidance: The assembly instructions emphasize ensuring all parts are present, assembling on a soft, smooth surface to prevent damage, and requiring two adults for assembly. Phillips head screwdriver is not included, and power tools should not be used. Screws should be turned clockwise until tight, then loosened 1/2-3/4 of a turn, and re-tightened after the crib is completely assembled. Wax or soap can be used on screws to facilitate assembly.
    • Mattress Support Installation: The mattress support tabs must always be above the mattress support, and the flat surface of the mattress support should face up for the mattress to sit on a flat surface. All height adjustment holes must be filled with appropriate bolts and tightly secured after the mattress support has been moved to the desired level.
  • Day Bed Mode:

    • Conversion Process: Converting the crib to a day bed involves detaching the front panel (Part J) from the front posts (H1 and H2) using an Allen wrench (C). If the mattress support (Part K) is not already in the lowest position, it must be moved there by unscrewing and re-securing the mattress support bolts (Part D). A guard rail (Part F) is then attached between the left and right front posts using bolts (A) and the provided wrench (C). All screws should be tightened clockwise.
    • Age and Weight Limits: The day bed is intended for use by children not less than 15 months of age and who weigh no more than 50 lbs (27.7 kgs).
    • Mattress Requirements: The same mattress size requirements as the crib apply: at least 27-1/4 inches by 51-5/8 inches (69cm by 131cm) with a minimum thickness of 4 inches (10cm) and not exceeding 6 inches (15cm).
    • Entrapment/Strangulation Hazard: Warnings highlight the risk of entrapment and strangulation in toddler beds. The bed should never be used with children under 15 months. It should not be placed near windows where cords from blinds or drapes could strangle a child. Items with strings, cords, or ribbons should not be placed around a child's neck, nor should strings be suspended over the day bed.
    • Guardrail Use: If guardrails are used as mattress containment, the provided guardrail(s) must be used to prevent gaps between the mattress and the bed that could cause entrapment.
  • Full-Size Bed Mode:

    • Conversion Process: To convert to a full-size bed, the front posts (H1 & H2) are assembled to the front panel (Part J) using bolts (A). The full-size conversion rails (not included) are then assembled to the headboard (Part I) and the footboard assembly.
    • Conversion Rails: It is explicitly stated that full-size conversion rails are not included with the product, meaning they must be purchased separately to complete this conversion.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Inspection: Before each usage or assembly, the crib should be inspected for damaged hardware, loose joints, missing parts, or sharp edges. If any parts are missing or broken, the crib should not be used, and replacement parts should be obtained from customer service.
  • Fastener Tightening: All fasteners should be tightened to prevent strangulation. Bolts and screws should be checked periodically and tightened if necessary.
  • Refinishing: If refinishing is desired, a non-toxic finish specified for children's products must be used.
  • Cleaning: Regular dusting with a soft, lint-free cloth is recommended to prevent soil build-up. A damp cloth can be used occasionally to clean surfaces, but they should be dried immediately. Abrasives that could damage the finish should not be used.
  • Environmental Considerations: Excessive exposure to sunlight and extreme changes in temperature and moisture can damage wood furniture.
  • Storage: If the crib is to be stored, it should be kept in a cool, dry place, and all original hardware should be carefully packaged to prevent loss.
  • Warranty: The product comes with a 1-year limited warranty from the date of original purchase, covering defects in material and workmanship. This warranty is valid only upon presentation of proof of purchase and is limited to the repair or replacement of defective furniture components, excluding assembly labor. It does not apply to products that have been improperly assembled, subjected to misuse or abuse, or altered or repaired in any way.
