Overview

This document is an owner's manual for Jason International Designer Whirlpool Baths, covering installation, operation, and maintenance. It emphasizes safety, proper installation, and care to ensure long-lasting, trouble-free service.

Function Description

Jason Designer Whirlpool Baths are luxury bathing systems designed to provide hydrotherapy. These baths feature a pump-driven system that circulates water through strategically placed jets, creating a massaging action. Depending on the edition (Standard, Premier, or Signature), the baths offer various features to enhance the bathing experience.

The core function of all editions involves a pump that draws water from the bath and expels it through jets. The jets are designed for maximum whirlpool action, offering either directional or rotational capabilities. Users can adjust the direction of the jets to concentrate the massaging stream on specific areas. Additionally, air volume controls allow bathers to increase or decrease the air flow into the jets, influencing the intensity of the bubbles and hydrotherapy performance.

The baths are equipped with electronic controls, typically a touchpad mounted on the bath deck, which allows users to activate and control the pump, adjust settings, and manage other features. A low water level sensor is integrated to prevent the pump from operating without sufficient water, protecting the equipment. A built-in timer ensures the pump automatically shuts off after a set period, usually 20 minutes, for convenience and safety.

Premier Edition Whirlpool baths build upon the Standard Edition by adding a combination pump/heater, an ozone sanitation system, and an LED Chromatherapy light. The heater helps maintain water temperature, while the ozone system provides sanitation. The LED light offers chromatherapy, enhancing the ambiance of the bath.

Signature Edition Whirlpool baths represent the most advanced system, incorporating a 3-speed pump (or two 1-HP secondary pumps on larger models like the LS640), an automatic 1.5kW heater, chromatherapy mood light, and an automatic ozone system that operates whenever the pump is powered. These baths feature a digital control with an LCD display window that alternately indicates water temperature and remaining time. Signature Edition baths also include low water and temperature sensors and may offer an optional jetted neck pillow for targeted hydrotherapy. A unique feature of the Signature Edition is a floating, waterproof Universal Remote Control, which provides the same control functions as the main touchpad and can also operate external entertainment systems like TVs, DVDs, VCRs, and CDs through Sound Immersion Transducers (optional).

Usage Features

Operating a Jason whirlpool bath is designed to be intuitive through its control touchpads.

For Standard and Premier Edition Whirlpool baths, the touchpad typically has a "Whirlpool" icon and an "Option" icon.

  • Whirlpool Icon: Pressing this icon once starts the pump and initiates a 20-minute timer. Pressing it again will shut the pump off.
  • Option Icon: If an LED light is installed, this icon controls it. Pressing for less than two seconds turns the lights on or off. Holding it for more than two seconds changes the light modes. This function has a two-hour timer and remembers the last mode.

For Signature Edition Whirlpool baths, the digital touchpad offers more advanced control:

  • Whirlpool On/Off, Speed Icon: Pressing and releasing this icon cycles through pump settings: High, Medium, Low, or Off (for 50Hz controls: ON or OFF). A 20-minute timer starts when the pump motor is activated. Holding the icon cycles through the pump settings. The icon lights up when the water is at the operating level, and the LCD displays "System Ready." The LCD will show "Pump Off," "Pump High," "Pump Medium," or "Pump Low" when the key is pressed. It also toggles between Temperature and Timer at 5-second intervals. "Low Water" is displayed for 5 seconds if no water is detected.
  • Jetted Neck Pillow Icon [Optional]: This icon controls the jetted neck pillow. Pressing and releasing cycles through settings for constant flow, pulsing flow on both jets, or pulsing alternating flow between jets. Holding the icon cycles through these settings. The icon lights when the pump is running. Solenoids open for two minutes to drain during the purge cycle countdown. The LCD displays "Pillow On," "Pillow Pulse1," "Pillow Pulse2," or "Pillow Off" when the key is pressed.
  • LED Light Icon: Holding this key for less than two seconds turns the lights Off or On. Holding it for more than two seconds changes modes. The Light icon remains lit as long as the bath is connected to a power supply. This function has a two-hour timer and remembers the last mode. The LCD displays "Light On" or "Light Off" when pressed for less than two seconds, and "Light Cycle" if pressed for more than two seconds.
  • Option ("O" Icon): This key controls the optional second jetted neck pillow on the LS640 model.
  • Customized Settings: The 12-character LCD display can be customized by simultaneously pressing the two Diagnostic Function icons for five seconds while the system is off. This allows access to a menu for Product Test Diagnostics, Temperature (F or C), and Language (English or Spanish).
  • Menu Instructions: The top Diagnostic Function icon scrolls through menu items, and the bottom Diagnostic Function icon changes options. For example, users can change from Product Test to Temperature option, or change temperature display from Fahrenheit to Celsius.
  • Product Test Diagnostics: After selecting this option, the unit performs a series of tests to confirm correct installation of components, displaying configuration and software revision numbers, testing IR communication, temperature and low water level sensors, and illuminating each icon button. The pump will then start for two seconds on High, and the LED Light unit will be tested. Any errors indicate a need to confirm proper installation.
  • Remote Control: Signature Edition baths include a waterproof floating Universal Remote Control for all bath functions and external entertainment systems.

Before operating, users must close the drain and fill the bath with water at least two inches (50mm) above the highest jets. The inlet water temperature should not exceed 40°C (104°F) to prevent damage to the acrylic surface. After use, the unit should be turned off before draining the water. The bath and its plumbing are designed to drain completely after each use.

Maintenance Features

The manual provides comprehensive instructions for maintaining the bath's cleanliness and functionality, as well as troubleshooting common issues.

Humidity Control:

To prevent mold, mildew, fungi, and bacteria, it is crucial to avoid high humidity levels in the bathroom.

  1. Ensure the bath or shower area is well-vented with adequate air circulation to dry the environment quickly.
  2. If tiled-in, use units with an integral tile flange or a tile flange kit/mechanical barrier to prevent leaks behind the bathtub.
  3. Ensure the plumber properly tests the therapy bath for leaks during rough-in and that proper access to equipment is maintained.
  4. Verify all plumbing and fixtures are in good working order and leak-free.
  5. Avoid carpeting or moisture-retaining materials/furniture in the bathroom.
  6. Regularly use disinfectant to clean bathroom surfaces exposed to moisture.
  7. Clean and disinfect humidifiers/dehumidifiers as recommended by the manufacturer and replace HVAC unit air filters monthly.
  8. Clean moldy surfaces immediately with detergent/soapy solution and household cleaner, using gloves and disposing of sponges/rags.

Cleaning the Bath Surface:

With minimal care, the acrylic surface will retain its high-luster finish.

  1. Regular Cleaning: Use Jason Bath Cleaner or a mild non-abrasive liquid detergent solution (e.g., glass cleaner) and a soft, wet cloth or sponge.
  2. Avoid Foaming Cleaners: Do not run the hydrotherapy system with foaming cleaners or soaps.
  3. Rinse Thoroughly: Always rinse the bath thoroughly after cleaning.
  4. Removing Debris: Construction plaster or excess grout can be removed with a wood (edge) trowel.
  5. Removing Stains: Paint or tar stains may require paint thinner, turpentine, or isopropyl alcohol. Never let cleaners soak on the acrylic surface for long periods; always rinse immediately.
  6. Restoring Scratches/Dull Surfaces: Minor scratches or dull surfaces can be restored with commercially available plastic polish (e.g., Novus Plastic Polish No. 2, available from Jason dealers), followed by acrylic paste wax. Buff with a clean, soft cloth. Do not use sandpaper, steel wool, or abrasive rubbing compounds. For deep scratches or damage penetrating the acrylic surface, consult the dealer.
  7. Protection During Installation: Protect the acrylic surface from damage during installation using cardboard and/or plastic film. Remove the necessary film portion when installing tile.

Flushing/Sanitizing:

Upon start-up and every 90 days:

  1. Close the drain and fill the bath with warm water to at least two inches (5.1 cm) above the highest jet.
  2. Pour in Jason Bath System Cleaner and follow bottle directions.
  3. Do not use bleach or chlorinated cleansers directly on metal trim.

Repair and Troubleshooting:

  • Professional Repair: All plumbing or electrical repairs must be referred to a qualified service technician. Attempting to resolve problems yourself can lead to electrical shock, unit damage, and void the warranty.
  • Contacting Service: When contacting the dealer or service representative, provide the serial number, proof of purchase, and model number for quick warranty service. The serial number is on the front page of the manual or a small card on the back of the bath above the equipment.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: A detailed guide helps diagnose common issues:
    • Pump system won't start: Check circuit breakers, GFCI, fuses, and pump motor plug.
    • No air injected: Open air control valves, check for clogged air lines.
    • Water not pumped: Remove obstructions in suction/discharge, check for suction air leaks.
    • Pump won't shut off manually: Defective keypad or control.
    • Pump unions leak: Check for cracked, under/over-tightened unions, or improperly seated O-rings.
    • Pump shuts off prematurely: Pump motor overheating (check cooling vents, wire size), GFCI tripped, or water below recommended level.
    • Pump won't turn off after set time: Wiring error or control problem.
    • Pump won't turn off when water drained: Water level sensor wires/ribbon cables shorted or objects touching the sensor unit.
    • LED light won't operate: Light bulb loose in socket.

Safety Instructions:

The manual emphasizes critical safety precautions, including:

  • Strict supervision of children.
  • Using the unit only for its intended purpose.
  • Maintaining water temperature below 40°C (104°F) and limiting exposure time.
  • Avoiding bath use during pregnancy or under the influence of drugs/alcohol.
  • Consulting a physician if having heart disease, high/low blood pressure, circulatory problems, diabetes, or taking medication.
  • Entering/exiting the bath slowly.
  • Ensuring the suction cover is attached and jets are installed before operation, with at least two inches of water above the highest jet.
  • Never running the unit dry.
  • Not operating electrically connected devices near the bath.
  • Connecting the unit to a GFCI-protected circuit, tested regularly.
  • Not using oil-based additives.
  • Not using harsh abrasives or solvents for cleaning.

The manual stresses that the installer/owner is responsible for complying with all state and local codes during installation.
