DSC - Outputs
These output signals are only operational if the switched power signal is
applied to the DSC. Arranging the signals in this manner ensures that the
solenoids are only being energized when power steering is available. This
arrangement also causes manual steering to be automatically invoked
whenever power steering is not available.

1.4.4 Autopilot Request
Description
The Autopilot Request signal is one half of the DSC / Autopilot handshake
which is designed to ensure that control will not be transferred unless both
systems agree. The other half of the handshake is the Autopilot
Acknowledge signal described in section 1.3.5
. The DSC will not move
the rudder in response to autopilot rudder commands until both the
request and acknowledge conditions have been met.
