Alternator Charging Test
If the battery is in a fully charged condition, switch on the
working lights for 3 minutes before commencing the test.
Alternatively, operate the starter for a few moments with the
ESOS fuse removed.
Install a 100 Amp open - type shunt between the battery
positive terminal and the positive lead. Connect the AVO
2003 test meter and select position shown, which will
produce a reading in Amps.
Start the engine and run at maximum speed (see page K/1 -
1). Meter should show maximum alternator output (see page
C/1 - 1).
Note: The meter reading should be taken as soon as
possible after starting the engine, as the charging current will
fall rapidly.
A zero reading indicates failure of the alternator.
Service Procedures
See page C/4 - 3.
Removal and Replacement
Peugeot Engines

Disconnect the wiring from the rear of the alternator.
Loosen the pivot bolt A and the adjustment lock nut B.

outwards, remove the pivot bolt A and lift it from the engine.
Examine the drive belt for wear.
Replacement is a reversal of the removal procedure. Position
the alternator until belt deflection at X is approximately 10
mm (3/8 in). Part tighten A and B, then adjust bolt C until
deflection is 10 mm at X. Fully tighten A and B.
