The inability to maintain a selected position in your JLG Boom Lifts could stem from several issues. It might be due to an internal leak in the control or counterbalance valve, which requires disconnecting hydraulic lines, bypassing the valve, and checking for fluid flow from valve ports. If there's a steady flow, the valve needs replacement. Another cause could be a leak in the piston or shaft seal, necessitating an internal leakage test after removing the plug and housing's valve ports and operating the actuator through housing ports. Finally, air trapped in the actuator might be the culprit, requiring you to purge the air by following the bleeding procedures.
