Why is there excessive noise and vibration in my JLG 1850SJ Boom Lifts?
    • C
      Catherine Miller DVMJul 25, 2025
Excessive noise and vibration in JLG Boom Lifts can stem from several issues. Insufficient hydraulic fluid may cause system noise, so ensure the reservoir is filled to the correct level and that the oil supply to the motor is adequate and unobstructed. Trapped air in the system lines or motor can also lead to noise; make sure all lines and components are purged of air. A loose or incorrect shaft coupling can produce vibrations, so verify the correct coupling is used and properly fitted on the shaft. Misaligned shafts can create excessive frictional vibration, so ensure shafts are properly aligned. Finally, hydraulic oil with viscosity above acceptable limits can cause system noise, so replace the hydraulic oil with the appropriate fluid for the operating conditions.

What to do if JLG 1850SJ Boom Lifts won’t shift or is slow to start?
    • W
      Wanda WhiteAug 4, 2025
If your JLG Boom Lifts won’t shift or is slow to start, it could be due to obstructed or restricted flow through the servo control signal lines, so make sure signal lines are not obstructed or restricted and the signal pressure is adequate to shift the motor. Also, check the control orifices installed in the motor. Ensure proper control orifices are installed in the motor and are not obstructed. Clean or replace them as necessary, as obstructions increase shift times.

Why is my JLG 1850SJ system operating hot?
    • J
      Jessica DoyleAug 14, 2025
Your JLG Boom Lifts system might be operating hot due to several reasons. An insufficient amount of hydraulic fluid will not meet system cooling demands, so ensure the reservoir is filled to the proper level. If the heat exchanger fails or is obstructed, it may not meet system cooling demands; ensure the heat exchanger is receiving adequate air flow and is in good operating condition, repairing or replacing it as necessary. Additionally, if a system relief valve becomes unseated for an extended period or fails, the system could overheat; repair or replace any malfunctioning relief valves and verify the machine loads are not excessive.
