Installing the NAE/NIE Technical Bulletin22
Wiring the NAE
Notes: Terminal blocks and their sockets are keyed to fit in only the
correct configuration. Do not remove the keys unless otherwise
instructed.
The following instructions assume that you have installed the NAE
(see Mounting the NAE for details) and installed the data protection
battery (see Installing the Data Protection Battery). If you have not
completed these tasks, do so before continuing with these instructions.
To wire the NAE:
1. Connect the network communication cables to the appropriate
ports.
Note: Make sure the network wiring meets the specifications in the
Wiring Considerations section.
2. Set the N2 EOL switches (if necessary). See Wiring
Considerations.
3. If required, connect the telephone line to the modem port or
connect an external modem to the USB A port.
4. Make connections to the RS-232 ports (if necessary).
5. Connect the power cable from the transformer to the removable
power terminal block on the NAE as shown in Figure 2. Outside
North America, wire colors may be different. Follow the
transformer manufacturer’s instructions or the project installation
drawings.
Note: The 24 VAC hot and common lines can be connected to
either power terminal, but we recommend the configuration shown in
Figure 2. There is no earth ground connection required for the NAE.
6. Verify that the NAE 24 VAC and POWER LEDs are lit. The
NAE requires up to 5 minutes to initialize and start running
(RUN LED lit).
Turning Off the NAE
To turn off the NAE, remove line power and wait for the POWER
LED to go out. It takes approximately 1 to 6 minutes for the NAE to
power down, depending on the amount of data to be backed up in the
nonvolatile memory.
