Do you have a question about the JVC HR-S10EG and is the answer not in the manual?
This document describes the JVC HR-S10EG/EK Video Cassette Recorder and the TU-S10EG/EK Tuner/Adapter.
The JVC HR-S10EG/EK is an ultra-small, lightweight VHS PAL standard video cassette recorder designed for portable use. It features a rotary, slant azimuth two-head helical scan system for recording and playback of PAL-type colour and CCIR monochrome signals. When combined with the matching TU-S10EG/EK Tuner/Adapter, it can record TV programmes and also functions as a power base to supply AC power to the recorder or charge its battery pack. The tuner/adapter itself is a voltage synthesizer wide-band tuner with 32-channel storage capacity (16 channels for EK models) and a built-in 14-day/8-event programmable timer for unattended TV recording. The infrared remote control unit can control both the recorder and the tuner/adapter when they are connected.
The HR-S10EG/EK recorder is designed for ease of use, featuring feather-light touch pushbutton operation with microprocessor-based full logic tape control. It offers direct, cable-less connection to the TU-S10EG/EK tuner/adapter. The infrared remote control unit controls both units when connected. Key features include shuttle search (9 times normal speed in both directions), automatic backspace editing for clean assembled recordings, simplified insert editing, and audio dubbing. It can be connected to most TV receivers via a built-in RF converter and includes an LCD tape counter with memory function. Recording standby mode lock ensures clean assemble edits. Reverse playback at normal speed, still picture, and still-picture advance playback are supported. An automatic quick review function displays the last second of recording in the camera's viewfinder when the pause button is pressed. Tape-to-tape dubbing is possible through relevant connectors or the provided dubbing connector.
The TU-S10EG/EK tuner/adapter enhances the recorder's capabilities with a microprocessor-assisted timer for multi-way programming up to 14 days in advance (8 programmes). It has a voltage synthesizer wide-band tuner with 32-channel storage capacity (16 channels for EK models) and a quick charging function for the NB-P4U/NB-P3U rechargeable battery packs. A clock/timer memory hold system provides up to 60 minutes of backup. Auto-scan tuning with channel up/down buttons and a channel lock mechanism are included. It serves as an AC power adapter for the HR-S10EG/EK recorder and features a fluorescent tube display for time and programmed timer recording data, with improved clock accuracy via a quartz oscillator.
The manual emphasizes important safety precautions, including the use of specified internal wiring and insulating materials, and careful handling of parts identified as critical for safety (marked with a triangle symbol and shaded). It provides detailed instructions for mechanical adjustments, such as replacing the upper drum, full erase head, audio/control head, pinch roller, capstan motor, mode control motor, reel disks, clutches, brush, tension band, and pick-up head. These adjustments include checks for loading system timing, tension pole position, take-up torque, back tension, tape transport system, and interchangeability.
Electrical adjustments are also covered, including switching regulator system adjustments (5.25 V DC output voltage), Mechacon system adjustments (battery alarm), servo system adjustments (drum pulse level, capstan DISCR. position, drum DISCR. position, PB switching point, REC switching point, tracking preset, CTL head position, reverse PB tracking preset, H. discriminator, V. pulse), and video system adjustments (video head resonance & Q, video E-E level, carrier and deviation, white clip and dark clip, AFC, VXO, REC FM level, REC Color level, converter balance, noise cancel balance, PB Y. burst level, SECAM DET. adjust). Audio system adjustments include audio PB level, audio bias level, audio REC level, and audio REC/PB frequency response.
General maintenance advice includes cleaning the cabinet with a soft cloth and avoiding strong cleaning agents. The device is equipped with a moisture condensation prevention circuit, which automatically heats the head drum. The DEW/FEUCHT indicator warns of moisture condensation, preventing operation until the unit is dry. For long periods of disuse, it is advisable to remove the power cord from the AC outlet. The manual also provides a service schedule for main components, recommending periodic inspection, lubrication, and replacement of parts like tension poles, guide rollers, belts, and clutches based on operating hours.
