This document is an instruction and recipe manual for the KitchenAid 5-Cup Food Processor, models KFP300 and KFP350.
Function Description
The KitchenAid 5-Cup Food Processor is a versatile kitchen appliance designed for various food preparation tasks. It features a heavy-duty power base with Clean Touch ON/OFF/PULSE control pads and an Electronic Processing Sensor for consistent speed. The primary function is to process food efficiently, including chopping, mincing, blending, mixing, emulsifying, slicing, and shredding. The KFP350 model also includes a mini bowl and mini blade for smaller tasks.
Important Technical Specifications
- Capacity: 5-cup work bowl. The mini bowl (KFP350 only) has a capacity of up to ½ cup of liquid or ¾ cup of solids.
- Electrical Requirements: 120 A.C. Volts, 60 Hertz, 15-amp branch circuit. The appliance has a polarized plug for safety.
- Blades and Discs:
- Stainless Steel Multipurpose Blade: The workhorse blade for chopping, mincing, blending, mixing, and emulsifying.
- Reversible Slicing/Shredding Disc: Features a sharp slicing blade on one side and a shredding surface on the other for firm fruits, vegetables, and cheeses.
- Mini Blade (KFP350 only): Made of high-quality stainless steel, similar to the multipurpose blade, for small chopping and mixing jobs.
- Safety Features:
- Double interlock safety system: The unit will not operate unless the work bowl and work bowl cover are properly aligned with the power base.
- Automatic Brake: Stops the blade or disc within seconds when the processor is turned OFF, providing an additional safety measure.
- Food Pusher: Must always be used to keep fingers away from moving blades.
Usage Features
- Assembly:
- Place the power base on a dry, level counter with controls facing forward.
- Place the work bowl on the power base, aligning the center opening over the shaft, and turn right to lock.
- Select and place the desired blade or disc (multipurpose blade, slicing/shredding disc, or mini blade for KFP350) onto the power base shaft or attachment stem. Ensure proper alignment and secure fit.
- Place the work bowl cover on the work bowl, aligning the feed tube to the left of the handle, and turn right to lock.
- Fit the food pusher into the feed tube and plug the unit into an electrical outlet.
- Operation:
- ON control pad: For continuous operation. The unit runs until the OFF control pad is touched.
- PULSE control pad: For quick on/off processing, allowing precise control over processing length and frequency.
- OFF control pad: To stop the food processor. Wait for the blade/disc to stop completely before removing the cover.
- Processing Tips (Multipurpose Blade):
- Chop fresh fruits/vegetables: Cut into ¾-inch pieces, use short pulses.
- Mince garlic/chop herbs: Add through feed tube with processor running.
- Chop meat/poultry/seafood: Use up to ½ pound at a time, cut into ¾-inch pieces, use short pulses.
- Grate hard cheeses: Use up to 4 ounces, cut into 2-inch pieces, use short pulses then continuously.
- Chop nuts/make nut butters: Use up to 1½ cups, short pulses then continuously for nut butters.
- Puree cooked fruits/vegetables: Add ¼ cup liquid per cup of food, short pulses then continuously.
- Chop dried/sticky fruits: Add ¼ cup flour per ½ cup fruit, short pulses.
- Make crumbs: Break food into 1-2 inch pieces, process until fine.
- Finely chop citrus peel: Combine with at least ½ cup granulated sugar, process until finely chopped.
- Do not overfill: Max 2 cups liquid, 1½ cups solids in work bowl; ½ cup liquid, ¾ cup solids in mini bowl.
- Add liquids through the open feed tube while running.
- Not designed for grinding coffee beans/grains/hard spices, bones, liquefying raw fruits/vegetables, or slicing hard-cooked eggs/unchilled meats.
- Processing Tips (Slicing/Shredding Disc):
- Cut food to fit feed tube vertically or horizontally. Pack securely.
- Use even pressure for processing.
- For long/slender foods (celery, carrots): Position vertically or horizontally.
- For round foods (onions, apples): Cut into halves/quarters.
- For small foods (strawberries, mushrooms): Position vertically or horizontally in layers.
- For shredding leaves (spinach): Stack, roll up, and stand in feed tube.
- For firm/soft cheeses: Use very cold cheese; freeze soft cheeses 10-15 minutes.
- For uncooked meat/poultry: Cut/roll to fit feed tube, freeze until firm to the touch (30 min-2 hrs).
- For cooked meat/poultry: Use very cold food, cut to fit feed tube.
- For julienne/matchstick strips: Cut food horizontally, process using even pressure, restack slices and reposition.
- Use light pressure for soft foods, moderate for medium, firm for harder foods.
- Redistribute food with a spatula if it piles up on one side.
- Remove food from work bowl when it reaches the rim.
Maintenance Features
- Cleaning:
- Always ensure the OFF pad is pushed and the unit is unplugged before cleaning.
- Wipe the power base with a warm, sudsy cloth, then a damp cloth, and dry with a soft cloth.
- All other parts (work bowl, cover, blades, discs, food pusher) are dishwasher safe. Load them away from exposed heating elements.
- If washing by hand, avoid abrasive cleansers or scouring pads to prevent scratching/clouding.
- Handle blades and discs with extreme care as they are very sharp. Rinse thoroughly and dry all parts.
- Wipe the cord with a warm, sudsy cloth, then a damp cloth, and dry with a soft cloth.
- For plastic parts discoloration, clean with a light bleach solution following container directions.
- Storage:
- Store the work bowl and work bowl cover in the unlocked position when not in use to prevent damage to the interlock system.
- Store disassembled discs and blades in a safe location, out of reach of children.
Warranty and Service
- Total Replacement Warranty (USA): If the food processor fails within the first year of ownership, KitchenAid will deliver an identical or comparable replacement free of charge and arrange for the return of the failed unit.
- Standard First Year Warranty (Puerto Rico and after Total Replacement Warranty expires): Repair or replacement of parts for defects in materials and workmanship by an Authorized KitchenAid Service Center. Shipping costs for service outside the 50 United States and District of Columbia are not covered.
- Customer Service: Call 1-800-541-6390 (8 a.m. to 8 p.m. M-F, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sat, Eastern Time) for service or assistance.
- Product Registration: Fill out and mail the product registration card to receive product safety notifications and comply with the Consumer Product Safety Act. Keep a copy of the sales receipt as proof of purchase for warranty service.
