Overview

The KitchenAid Built-In Electric Convection Oven is designed for versatile cooking, offering a range of functions including baking, roasting, broiling, convection cooking, dehydrating, and bread proofing. It features an electronic oven control with a digital display for setting and monitoring cooking functions.

Function Description:

  • Baking and Roasting: The oven utilizes both bake and broil elements, cycling them on and off to maintain the set temperature. For roasting, preheating is generally not required unless specified by the recipe.
  • Convection Baking: This mode uses a convection element and fan to circulate hot air, ensuring even heating. It's recommended to reduce recipe temperature by 25°F (14°C) and potentially reduce cook time for optimal results. Aluminum foil should not be used for optimal cooking.
  • Convection Roasting: Similar to convection baking, this mode circulates hot air using a fan and bake/broil elements. For poultry, a 25°F (14°C) temperature reduction is suggested.
  • Maxi and Econo Broiling: Broiling uses direct radiant heat from the broil element(s). Maxi broiling uses both inner and outer elements, while Econo broiling uses only the inner element for smaller food quantities. Temperature can be adjusted for more precise control.
  • Convection Broiling: Combines broiling with fan-circulated hot air for even cooking.
  • Convect Full Meal: Offers eleven preset cooking cycles with predefined oven settings, temperatures, and cook/probe times for various meals. Users can also customize and save their own cycles.
  • Convection Temperature Conversion: The oven can automatically reduce standard recipe temperatures and times for convection cooking.
  • Dehydrating: This function removes water from food for preservation. It requires dehydration racks and an oven door stop (not supplied). The temperature range for dehydrating is 100°F to 200°F (38°C to 95°C).
  • Proofing Bread: Creates an optimal environment for dough to rise by activating yeast. It's recommended to proof twice, using a lightly greased bowl and boiling water in a broiler pan for humidity.
  • Temperature Probe: Accurately measures the internal temperature of meat, poultry, and casseroles with liquid, ensuring doneness. The probe range is 130°F to 190°F (54°C to 88°C).
  • Timed Cooking: Allows users to set the oven to turn on at a specific time, cook for a set duration, and/or shut off automatically. A delay start feature is also available.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Oven Lights: 12 volt, 5-watt maximum halogen bulbs.
  • Temperature Ranges:
    • Bake/Roast: 170°F to 500°F (77°C to 260°C)
    • Convection Bake: 170°F to 500°F (77°C to 260°C)
    • Convection Roast: 170°F to 500°F (77°C to 260°C)
    • Broil: 170°F to 500°F (77°C to 260°C)
    • Convection Broil: 170°F to 500°F (77°C to 260°C)
    • Dehydrating: 100°F to 200°F (38°C to 95°C)
    • Proofing Bread: 100°F (38°C)
    • Temperature Probe: 130°F to 190°F (54°C to 88°C)
  • Sabbath Mode: Allows the oven to remain on in a bake setting until turned off, with limited display and tone functions. The bake range in Sabbath Mode is 170°F to 500°F (77°C to 260°C).

Usage Features:

  • Electronic Oven Control: Features a digital display, number pads, and dedicated buttons for various cooking modes (Bake, Broil, Roast, Convection Bake, Convection Roast, Convect Full Meal, Clean, Timer, Clock, Start, Cancel).
  • Display(s): Shows oven temperature, heat source(s), cooking power, quantities, weights, help prompts, time of day, and timer countdown. Error messages ("Err," "RETRY," "PF id = 27/30") indicate invalid inputs or power failures.
  • Clock: A 12-hour clock (without a.m./p.m. indication) that can be set and removed from the display.
  • Tones: Audible signals for valid pad presses, preheating, function entry, invalid pad presses, end-of-cycle, and reminders. Tones can be turned off/on and volume adjusted.
  • Fahrenheit and Celsius: Temperature display can be switched between Fahrenheit and Celsius.
  • Timer: A countdown timer that does not start or stop the oven.
  • Control Lock: Shuts down control panel pads to prevent unintended use, except for Clock, Timer, and Timer Cancel.
  • Oven Temperature Control: Allows calibration of oven temperature to cook faster or slower.
  • Aluminum Foil Use: Not recommended for lining the oven bottom or covering entire racks due to potential damage and poor air circulation. Can be used on racks below dishes to catch spills.
  • Positioning Racks and Bakeware: Racks should be positioned before turning the oven on. Specific rack positions are recommended for different food types and bakeware.
  • Bakeware: Different bakeware materials affect cooking results. Recommendations are provided for light-colored aluminum, dark aluminum, insulated cookie sheets, stainless steel, stoneware, and ovenproof glass/ceramic.
  • Oven Vent: Located above the oven door, it must not be blocked to allow hot air and moisture to escape.
  • Burn Hazard Warning: Emphasizes the use of oven mitts and avoiding contact with hot surfaces during and after oven use, especially with the temperature probe and broil elements.
  • Food Poisoning Hazard Warning: Advises against leaving food in the oven for more than one hour before or after cooking.

Maintenance Features:

  • Self-Cleaning Cycle: Uses very high temperatures to burn soil to a powdery ash. The cycle is preset for 3 hours 30 minutes but can be adjusted (2 hours 30 minutes for light soil, 3 hours 30 minutes to 4 hours 30 minutes for average to heavy soil).
    • Preparation: Remove broiler pan, grid, cookware, bakeware, temperature probe, and any foil. Oven racks can be removed or left in (they may discolor and become harder to slide). Hand clean the inside door edge and the area around the oven cavity frame. Wipe out loose soil.
    • Safety: Do not touch the oven during the cycle. Keep children away. Do not use commercial oven cleaners. Ensure good ventilation.
    • Delay Start: The self-cleaning cycle can be delayed to start at a later time.
  • Cleaning:
    • Stainless Steel: Use Stainless Steel Cleaner & Polish or liquid detergent/all-purpose cleaner. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
    • Oven Door Exterior: Use glass cleaner and paper towels or a non-abrasive plastic scrubbing pad.
    • Control Panel: Use glass cleaner and a soft cloth or sponge. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
    • Oven Cavity: Clean food spills when the oven is cool. Self-cleaning cycle is the primary method.
    • Oven Racks: Can be cleaned during the self-cleaning cycle (they may discolor). A light coating of vegetable oil on rack guides helps them slide. Steel wool pads can also be used.
    • Broiler Pan and Grid: Do not clean in the self-cleaning cycle. Use mildly abrasive cleanser, ammonia solution, or oven cleaner.
    • Temperature Probe: Use a plastic scouring pad or dishwasher.
  • Oven Lights: Halogen bulbs that come on when the door is opened or can be turned on/off with the OVEN LIGHT button. Instructions are provided for replacement.
  • Oven Door Removal: The oven door can be removed for cleaning or service, but it is heavy and requires care. Door removal pins (supplied) are used to lock the hinges.
