Overview

The KNIPEX NexStrip® is a versatile multi-tool designed for electricians, offering a combination of cutting, stripping, and crimping functionalities. Manufactured with KNIPEX quality in Germany, this tool is engineered for safe and efficient operation, ensuring reliable performance in various electrical tasks. Its design prioritizes user safety and ease of use, making it an indispensable tool for professionals.

Function Description

The primary function of the KNIPEX NexStrip® is to process electrical conductors. It excels at stripping single, multi, and fine-stranded conductors across a wide range of cross-sections, from 0.03 to 10 mm² (AWG 32-8). This broad capacity allows it to handle a variety of wiring needs, from delicate electronics to more robust installations. The tool features a precision knife for stripping, which can be finely adjusted to accommodate different insulation materials and temperature conditions, ensuring a clean and damage-free strip every time.

In addition to stripping, the NexStrip® also provides a robust cutting capability for copper and aluminium conductors, handling cross-sections up to a maximum of 10 mm². This integrated wire cutter eliminates the need for a separate tool for cutting, streamlining the workflow for electricians.

Furthermore, the tool is equipped for crimping wire ferrules. It can crimp both loose single wire ferrules (0.25 – 4.0 mm²) and Twin wire ferrules (up to 2 x 2.5 mm²). The crimping point is designed to produce a square crimp with metal crimping jaws, which ensures optimal contact in the clamp, leading to secure and reliable electrical connections. This multi-functionality makes the KNIPEX NexStrip® a comprehensive solution for common electrical preparation tasks.

Usage Features

The KNIPEX NexStrip® is designed for intuitive and user-friendly operation. For cutting cables, the user simply inserts the end of the cable between the two blades of the wire cutter and firmly presses the two handles together. This straightforward process ensures quick and clean cuts.

For stripping cables, the tool incorporates an adjustable feed stop, allowing the user to set the desired stripping length from 3 to 17 mm. This feature ensures consistent stripping lengths, which is crucial for professional installations. If the feed stop is removed, the tool can strip cables up to a maximum length of 20 mm, offering flexibility for longer strip requirements. After setting the length, the cable end is inserted into the holder, and the handles are firmly pressed together. An automatic lock mechanism ensures that the handles must be fully pressed together to achieve a consistent strip, only releasing once the operation is complete. This mechanism contributes to high-quality results and prevents partial stripping.

A key feature for stripping is the fine adjustment of the knife's cutting depth. This is particularly useful when working with insulation materials that are difficult to process or under special temperature conditions. Users can push a fine adjustment slider in either the "+" or "-" direction to individually tailor the knife's cutting depth, ensuring optimal performance and preventing damage to the conductor.

For crimping wire ferrules, the process involves inserting the wire ferrule and the cable into the crimping die from below. Similar to stripping, the handles are then firmly pressed together. The automatic lock ensures that the crimping process is completed with consistent pressure, guaranteeing a high-quality square crimp that provides optimal contact. In situations where the automatic lock needs to be disengaged manually, an emergency release mechanism is provided. A small screwdriver can be used to press a release pin located on the inside of the lower handle, allowing the lock to be unlocked.

The tool also includes practical design elements such as clamping jaws for cables/conductors, a labelling field for customisation on the inside of the handle, and a tether attachment point for attaching a fall protection device, enhancing safety when working at height.

Maintenance Features

Maintaining the KNIPEX NexStrip® is straightforward, primarily focusing on the changing of the feed stop. The feed stop is a removable component that can be replaced if needed. To change it, the user lightly presses the feed stop together and pulls it off its guide. A new feed stop can then be placed on the guide, ensuring it clicks into place. After replacement, it is recommended to check if the feed stop can be put into different settings to confirm proper installation. This simple maintenance task ensures the continued accuracy of stripping lengths.

The tool is designed for durability, with its material body made from glass fibre reinforced plastic and the material blade from special tool steel that is oil-hardened. While specific cleaning or lubrication instructions are not detailed, the robust construction suggests a low-maintenance design. The availability of spare parts, such as spare blades and a spare length stop, indicates that key components can be replaced to extend the tool's lifespan, supporting its long-term usability. The manufacturer's warranty covers defects traceable to material faults or manufacturing errors, but excludes wearing parts, highlighting the importance of proper handling and care to ensure the longevity of these components.
