Normal:
A
plug
taken
from
an
engine
operating
under
good
conditions
will
have
light
tan
or
gray
colored
deposits.
If
the
center
electrode is
not
rounded
off, a
plug
in
this
condition
could
be
re-gapped
and
reused.
Worn:
On
a
plug
which
has
been
in
service
too
long,
the
center
electrode
will be
rounded
off
and
the
gap
will
be
eroded

more
than
the
correct
setting.
Replace
worn
plugs
as
they
will
require
excessive
voltage
to
fire
properly.
Always
replace
plugs
in
pairs.

Carbon:
Soft,
sooty
black
deposits
indicate
incomplete
combustion
which
could
be
attributed
to
rich
carbure-
tion,
weak
ignition,
retarded
timing
or
poor
compression.
Wet:
A
wet
plug
could
be
caused
by
drowning
with
raw
fuel
or
oil
in
the
combustion
chamber.
The
raw
fuel
problem
may
be
caused
by
operating
with
too
much
choke. Oil
in
the
combustion
chamber
area
is
usually
caused
by
worn
rings
or
valve
guides.
