Why won't my Kohler Portable Generator engine start?
    • B
      Brian BoydAug 1, 2025
If your Kohler Portable Generator engine won’t start, several factors could be at play. It could be due to no fuel being supplied to the combustion chamber, a low oil level, or a poor spark. Make sure that fuel is supplied, add engine oil to the correct level, remove any carbon, or wipe the spark plug dry. Other possible causes are: the fuel cock lever is not in the ON position (turn it to ON), the fuel line is clogged (clean it), there is foreign matter in the fuel cock (clean it), or the carburetor is clogged (clean it). If the ignition system is faulty, consult a Kohler portable dealer.

If your Kohler portable generator does not start, it could be due to several reasons. The oil level may be low (add engine oil). The spark plug gap may be incorrect (replace or adjust the gap). The fuel line may be clogged (replace it). The unit could also be clogged (clean it). For a spark issue, consult a Kohler portable dealer. The manual does not provide information about the air filter element clogging.
