AUTOMATIC FLIGHT
CONTROL SYSTEM
(AFCS)
GENERAL
The JET FC 110 automatic flight control sys-
tem (AFCS) reduces the pilot’s workload by
flying the airplane to and holding desired
headings, attitudes, and altitudes. The AFCS
can be used for capture and track of VOR/ILS
radio signals and provides a back course fea-
ture. The FC 110 system uses 115 VAC and 28
VDC.
The autopilot, when engaged, has control in two
axes—pitch and roll. The yaw damper system
operates independently of the autopilot and
may be engaged with or without the autopilot
engaged. Detailed information on the yaw
damper system is given in Chapter 15, “Flight
Controls.
COMPONENT DESCRIPTION
Computer Amplifier—The computer amplifier
for the AFCS is located on the floor of the
cockpit beneath the pilot’s seat.
Servos—The 28-VDC servos are mounted in
the following locations:
Roll—under the floor in the forward
part of the cabin
Pitch—in the vertical stabilizer (left
side of tail compartment above the bat-
teries on SNs 23-003 through 24-138)
•Yaw—in the vertical stabilizer (right
side of tail compartment above the bat-
teries on SNs 23-003 through 24-138)
Secondary yaw (all 25 series)—in the
tailcone
The servos receive electrical signals from the
autopilot computer and move the control sur-
faces as required.
Flight Controller—The autopilot flight con-
troller is mounted on either the instrument
panel or the center pedestal (Figure 16-7).
The flight controller contains all of the AFCS
mode buttons, engage button, on–off lights,
roll turn knob, and pitch command wheel. Yaw
damper buttons are included. All mode buttons
are solenoid engaging and stay depressed until
cancelled by other operations.
