Overview

The Lectron Vortex Plug is a NACS to CCS1 adapter designed to enable CCS1-compatible electric vehicles (EVs) to access Tesla Supercharger stations. This adapter facilitates charging for CCS1 vehicles within the North American Charging Standard (NACS) Alliance, provided that Tesla has rolled out access to Superchargers for such vehicles and the automaker has authorized their use. Users are advised to contact their automaker for specific details regarding vehicle compatibility and Supercharger access availability.

Important Safety Instructions and Warnings:

The adapter operates at high voltage, posing a risk of electric shock and serious injury if not handled with care and proper connection. Users must read all instructions before use and avoid putting fingers into the adapter. It should not be used if the flexible output cable, vehicle connector, vehicle inlet, or the adapter itself has broken insulation, cracked housings, or exposed internal parts. The adapter is not suitable for use with chargers operating in dynamic current control mode or boost current mode, as this could exceed the adapter's rating and lead to shock or fire. The correct connection sequence is to first connect the adapter to the vehicle inlet, then the vehicle connector to the adapter. Disconnection should follow the reverse order.

Usage Features:

The Lectron Vortex Plug is exclusively intended for use with Tesla Superchargers and is not suitable for Wall Connectors, Mobile Connectors, Destination Chargers, or any other EV chargers. Misuse may result in damage and safety hazards. It is designed for CCS1 vehicles within the NACS alliance only. Users must follow the correct connection and disconnection procedures outlined in the manual and avoid disconnecting during charging. The adapter should be protected from water and moisture and operated within a temperature range of -22°F to 122°F. It should be handled with care and stored in a safe location. The adapter should not be cleaned with detergent, opened, or modified. For usage guidelines, maintenance, or repairs, customers can contact Lectron Customer Support.

Connecting the Vortex Plug:

  1. Open the EV charging port.
  2. Press the CCS1 unlock latch on the adapter.
  3. Plug the adapter and coupler into the vehicle.
  4. Release the CCS1 unlock latch to ensure a secure connection.
  5. Press the NACS unlock button.
  6. Connect the Supercharger coupler to the NACS Supercharger inlet on the adapter.
  7. Allow a brief pause for the vehicle and charger to communicate, then check the internal EV display for a successful connection.
  8. Begin charging according to the station guidelines.

Disconnecting the Vortex Plug:

  1. Only remove the Vortex Plug once charging is complete.
  2. Press the NACS unlock button and disconnect the Supercharger coupler from the NACS Supercharger inlet on the adapter.
  3. Press the CCS1 unlock latch on the adapter to release the connection between the adapter and the vehicle charging port.
  4. Remove the adapter from the vehicle charging port.

Troubleshooting:

If the vehicle fails to initiate charging, users should:

  1. Ensure the Supercharger supports CCS1 vehicles.
  2. Check for firm connections at both the NACS and CCS1 ends of the Vortex Plug.
  3. Safely unplug following the user manual procedure, then restart the connection process.
  4. Verify the charging status on both the Supercharger and the electric vehicle display.
  5. If issues persist, contact Lectron Customer Support.

Charging Time and Maintenance Features:

Charging time varies based on the Supercharger station, EV specifications, environmental conditions, and battery temperature. The Vortex Plug incorporates built-in temperature monitoring. Charging power may decrease if the terminal temperature exceeds 95°F, and operation will shut off if the charging coupler reaches 140°F. If an operation shut-off occurs, users should contact Lectron Customer Support for assistance. The adapter should not be stored outside the temperature range of -40°F to 185°F.
