Beforeyoubegin,printalltherelatedinstructionsorensurethatyoucanviewthePDFversiononanother
computerforreference.
Note:Tooptimizesystemperformance,ensurethatyoufollowthememorymoduleinstallationruleswhen

Toremoveamemorymodule,dothefollowing:
1.Removeallexternalmediafromthedrivesandturnoffallattacheddevicesandtheserver.Then,
disconnectallpowercordsfromelectricaloutletsanddisconnectallcablesthatareconnectedto
theserver.
2.Iftheserverisinstalledinarackcabinet,removetheserverfromtherackcabinetandplaceitonaflat,
clean,andstatic-protectivesurface.SeetheRackInstallationInstructionsthatcomeswiththeserver.If
theserverisintowerformfactor,laytheserveronitssideforeasieroperation.
3.Removetheservercover.See“Removingtheservercover”onpage70.
4.Removethecoolingshroud.See“Removingthecoolingshroud”onpage73.
5.Locatethememoryslotsonthesystemboard.See“Systemboardcomponents”onpage44.
6.Removeanypartsanddisconnectanycablesthatmightpreventyouraccesstothememoryslots.
7.Locatethememorymodulethatyouwanttoremoveandopentheretainingclipsonbothendsofthe
memoryslot.Then,graspthememorymodulebyitsedgesandcarefullypullitstraightuptoremoveit
fromthememoryslot.

8.Reinstallanypartsandreconnectanycablesthatyouhaveremoved.
