9 Maintenance/repair
M aintenance operations
Holding brake
9.2.3 Holding brake
The brakes need to be checked on a regular basis to ensure safe and trouble-free
operation.
The necessary m aintenance intervals prim arily depend on the stress to which the brake
is subjected in an application. W hen a m aintenance interval is being calculated, all
causes of wear must be taken into account (see notes W ear on spring-applied brakes).
In the case o f brakes which are subjected to low levels of stress, e.g. holding brakes w ith
em ergency stop function, regular inspections at a fixed tim e interval are recommended.
In order to reduce the am ount of w ork involved in maintenance, perform the inspection
at the same tim e as other maintenance w ork carried out cyclically on the machine if
possible.
If the brakes are not properly serviced, operating faults, production outages or damage
to m achinery can occur. A maintenance concept adapted to the operating conditions
and the stresses to which the brakes are subjected must therefore be drawn up for every
application. For brakes, the m aintenance intervals and servicing w ork listed in the
follow in g table are necessary.

If the m otor is equipped w ith a dust protection filter, this filter must be cleaned or even

dust is w et, the filte r m at m ust be replaced.
