Overview

The Lepro LED Motion-Activated Security Light is designed to provide enhanced outdoor security through intelligent motion detection and customizable lighting modes. This fixture is suitable for wall or eave mounting onto recessed or round surface-mounted electrical boxes rated for wet locations, ensuring versatility in installation. It is not suitable for ground mount electrical boxes.

Function Description:

The primary function of this security light is to automatically illuminate an area when motion is detected, thereby deterring intruders and enhancing visibility. The light utilizes a motion sensor that can detect movement up to 49 feet away, depending on ambient temperature and humidity. The detection distance is optimized at an ambient temperature of 77 degrees Fahrenheit with 30%-80% relative humidity. Temperature fluctuations can affect the detection range, with higher or lower temperatures potentially reducing it.

The light offers multiple operating modes to suit various needs:

  • AUTO Mode: In this mode, the light functions as an automatic sensor at night. When motion is detected, the light activates at its maximum brightness. Users can simultaneously set the lighting time and the sensitivity of the sensor.
  • 3H Mode: At dusk, the light will operate at a low brightness for 3 hours. If motion is detected during this period, it will switch to high brightness. After the 3-hour low-light period, it transitions to AUTO mode.
  • 6H Mode: Similar to the 3H mode, but the low-light period extends to 6 hours at dusk. After 6 hours, it switches to AUTO mode.
  • Dusk to Dawn Mode: In this mode, the light remains on at a low brightness from night until dawn. When motion is detected, it will switch to highlight mode, providing full illumination.

The motion sensor is designed to be sensitive to motion that crosses its detection field rather than motion directly towards or away from it. This ensures more reliable triggering for security purposes. The sensor head can be adjusted up, down, left, and right to optimize the desired coverage area. For proper operation and protection against water damage, the motion sensor adjustment controls must always face downward.

Usage Features:

The security light offers several adjustable settings to customize its operation:

  • Time Setting (Time Delay): This setting determines how long the light remains on after motion detection. Options include:
    • TEST: For quick adjustment and testing, the light turns on for 6 seconds when motion is detected (day/night). This is for testing purposes only.
    • 1 MIN: The light(s) remain on for 1 minute after motion detection at night.
    • 5 MIN: The light(s) remain on for 5 minutes after motion detection at night.
    • 10 MIN: The light(s) remain on for 10 minutes after motion detection at night.
  • Sensitivity Setting (Maximum Detection Distance): This setting controls the motion sensor's sensitivity and, consequently, its detection distance:
    • H (High sensitivity): Detects motion up to 49 feet (maximum detection distance for this light).
    • M (Medium sensitivity): Detects motion up to 36 feet.
    • L (Low sensitivity): Detects motion up to 26 feet.

The recommended installation height for the fixture is between 6.5 and 13 feet above the ground. At this height, the fixture provides optimal detection distance and coverage. The sensor head should be aimed towards the desired detection area with its controls facing the ground. It is crucial to ensure the motion detector head is not installed upside down.

To prevent nuisance triggers, the fixture should not be mounted near heat sources like air conditioners, vents, or furnace exhausts, or in a direction facing any reflective object or other nearby light source. Additionally, the sensor should not be placed within a 1.5-meter radius of a reflective object, as this can cause the lights to flash erratically.

Maintenance Features:

Maintaining the Lepro LED Motion-Activated Security Light is straightforward, focusing on ensuring its longevity and proper function:

  • Cleaning: Any cleaning or maintenance should be performed with the power turned off. The lamp should be wiped clean with a damp cloth. Abrasive cleaning products should not be used on the lamp cap or motion sensor lens. Painting the lamp is also discouraged. High-pressure nozzles should not be used for cleaning.
  • Water Protection: After mounting the motion-activated light, it is essential to apply silicone sealant completely around the perimeter of the cover plate where it meets the mounting surface. This sealant prevents water from seeping into the junction box, protecting the electrical connections from moisture damage. Users should regularly check if the silica gel or sealant is still in place and if the lamp is firmly affixed to the wall.
  • Electrical Safety: The device requires a 120V, 60Hz electrical supply. It is crucial to turn off the power at the circuit breaker or fuse panel before any installation or servicing. The product must be installed by a qualified electrician.
  • LED Protection: LED electronics can be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD). Before installation, users should discharge any static electricity by touching a grounded bare metal surface. It is important not to remove the clear lens over the LED module to prevent damage.
  • Dimming Circuits: This fixture is not compatible with dimming circuits. If dimmer controls are present, they must be removed and replaced with regular electrical switches. For three-way dimmers, they should be replaced with regular three-way switches. If unfamiliar with electrical installations, it is recommended to consult a qualified electrician.
  • Sensor Head Spacing: Do not allow the sensor head to touch the LED head housing. Maintain at least a 1-inch spacing between the LED heads and the sensor head.
  • Wire Connections: Ensure all wire connections are secure and carefully placed into the junction box. For wet locations, any gaps between the EVA gasket and the mounting surface should be filled with a sealing compound or silicone glue to prevent water ingress.

Troubleshooting tips are provided to address common issues such as the light not coming on at night, coming on during the day, or flashing on and off. These typically involve checking power supply, adjusting the sensor head, ensuring proper wiring, and relocating the light to avoid interference from other light sources or shaded areas.
