This document describes the LG LED TV models LH57** and LH59**, providing information on setup, usage, and external control.
Device Description
The LG LED TV is a television set that utilizes an LCD screen with LED backlights. It is designed for home entertainment, offering various input options for external devices and smart functionalities for video-on-demand services (LH57** models).
Setup and Installation
The TV requires assembly of its stand, which involves attaching two stand components together with screws (M4 x L20) and then securing the assembled stand to the TV. For wall mounting, VESA standard mounting interfaces (optional parts) are used, and it's recommended to use LG's wall mount bracket. Proper ventilation is crucial, with a minimum 10 cm space from walls. The TV should be placed on a stable surface or securely mounted to prevent falling.
Connectivity
The TV offers a wide range of connectivity options:
- Antenna/Cable In: For connecting to a wall antenna socket with a 75 Ω RF cable. Signal splitters and amplifiers can be used for multiple TVs or poor signal quality.
- HDMI In: Multiple HDMI ports are available for connecting HD receivers, DVD players, gaming devices, and PCs. Certified HDMI cables (High-Speed HDMI®/TM Cable, 3m or less, with or without Ethernet) are recommended to prevent display or connection errors.
- HDMI In/ARC: One HDMI port supports Audio Return Channel (ARC) for simplified audio connections.
- USB In: For connecting USB storage devices. USB devices should have bezels less than 10 mm thick and 18 mm width. An extension cable supporting USB 2.0 is recommended if the device doesn't fit directly.
- LAN: For wired network connection.
- H/P Out: Headphone output.
- Satellite In: (Only satellite models) For connecting to a satellite dish with a 75 Ω satellite RF cable.
- Optical Digital Audio Out: For connecting to audio systems.
- PCMCIA Card Slot: For CI modules to view encrypted (pay) digital TV services.
- Component In: For connecting older video devices using Y, PB, PR, L/MONO, and AUDIO R cables.
- AV In: For connecting older video devices using VIDEO, L/MONO, and AUDIO R cables.
Power and Operation
The TV operates on AC 100-240 V~50/60 Hz. The power cord should be fully inserted into the wall socket and kept away from hot objects. The Mains Plug acts as the connecting/disconnecting device to the AC supply and must remain readily accessible.
Remote Control
The TV comes with a remote control, and some models may support the AN-MR650 Magic Remote.
- Standard Remote Control: Features number buttons, channel and volume controls, input selection, quick settings, info display, program guide, and media control buttons. Batteries (1.5 V AAA) should be inserted correctly.
- Magic Remote (AN-MR650): Offers additional functionalities like a wheel (OK button) for menu navigation, voice recognition (requires network connection), and a pointer for on-screen interaction. It needs to be paired with the TV.
Key Features and Usage
- Initial Setup: When first turned on, the TV may take a few minutes for initialization.
- Picture Quality: The panel's brightness and color may vary depending on the viewing position. Avoid displaying still images for prolonged periods to prevent image sticking.
- Sound: "Cracking" noises due to thermal contraction and "humming" from the high-speed switching circuit are normal and do not affect performance.
- Safety Instructions: Emphasizes proper handling, placement, and connection to prevent fire, electric shock, and injury. This includes avoiding direct sunlight, high humidity, heat sources, rain, wind, and water containers. Do not drop the product or allow children to climb on it.
- External Control Device Setup: The TV can be controlled externally via USB to Serial converter or RS-232C cable. This allows for integration with computer or A/V control systems. The RS-232C configurations specify pin assignments for RXD, TXD, and GND. The Set ID can be adjusted from 1-99 for controlling multiple monitors.
- Communication Parameters: Baud rate of 9600 bps (UART), 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit, and ASCII communication code.
- Command Reference List: Provides a detailed list of commands (e.g., Power, Aspect Ratio, Volume Mute, Contrast, Brightness, Color/Colour, Tint, Sharpness, OSD Select, Remote Control Lock, Treble, Bass, Color Temperature, ISM Method, Equalizer, Energy Saving, Tune, Channel Add/Del/Skip, Key, Control Backlight, Input Select, 3D, Extended 3D, Auto Configure) with their hexadecimal data values and descriptions.
- Real Data Mapping: Explains how to convert decimal data to hexadecimal for channel tuning and other commands.
- Smart TV Features (LH57): Designed for VOD watching services, some smart functions like web browser may not be supported.
- FreeviewPlus (Australia region only): Provides access to Freeview network content and services, including a 7+ day EPG, Catch Up TV, recommendations, and reminders. Requires an internet connection.
Maintenance
- Cleaning: Unplug the TV and wipe with a soft cloth. Do not spray water or use wet cloths, glass cleaner, abrasives, or alcohol, as these can damage the product.
- Power Cord: Periodically examine the power cord for damage. If damaged, unplug and replace it with an exact replacement part from an authorized servicer.
- Batteries: Dispose of used batteries carefully. Do not expose them to excessive heat or place non-rechargeable batteries in charging devices.
