Overview

This document serves as the owner's manual for an LG LED TV, providing essential information for its safe and effective operation, maintenance, and external control. The TV utilizes an LCD screen with LED backlights.

Function Description

The LG LED TV is designed for viewing television broadcasts and connecting to various external devices. It supports a range of input sources including antenna, cable, and HDMI, allowing users to watch DTV, NTSC-M, and QAM broadcasts, as well as content from Blu-ray players, HD receivers, DVD players, VCRs, audio systems, USB storage devices, PCs, and gaming consoles. The TV offers basic functions such as power on/off, volume control, channel selection, and screen mute. Advanced features include aspect ratio adjustment, screen contrast and brightness control, color/colour temperature settings, and sound balance. For models supporting 3D, there are options to change 3D modes, adjust 3D effects, and correct 3D picture. The TV also includes an auto-configure function for optimizing picture position and minimizing image shaking in RGB (PC) mode.

Usage Features

The TV can be operated using a single button for power on/off, menu control, and menu selection. For more comprehensive control, a remote control is provided, offering access to various functions like channel up/down, volume up/down, mute, input selection, sleep timer, teletext, favorite channels, return, AV mode, caption/subtitle, arrow keys for navigation, recent apps, play/stop/pause, soccer mode, record, 3D, auto-config, smart/home, SIMPLINK, info, program guide, and user guide. The TV supports a "User Guide" embedded within the product, accessible through the support menu, which provides detailed information on installation, usage, troubleshooting, and specifications.

For external control, the TV can be connected to a computer or A/V control system via a USB to Serial (RS-232C) converter or an RS-232C (Serial) cable. This allows for remote control of various TV functions using specific commands. The manual provides a comprehensive list of commands for power, aspect ratio, screen mute, volume mute, volume control, contrast, brightness, color/colour, tint, sharpness, OSD select, remote control lock mode, treble, bass, balance, color/colour temperature, ISM method (for Plasma TVs), equalizer, energy saving, tune command for channel selection, channel add/delete/skip, key code transmission, control backlight, control panel light, input select, and 3D mode adjustments. The TV's Set ID can be configured to control individual or multiple connected sets.

The TV also features optional extras such as a Magic Remote Control, which may require checking Bluetooth compatibility in the Wireless Module Specification. A cable to connect antennas and external devices must be purchased separately.

Maintenance Features

The manual emphasizes several safety and maintenance instructions to ensure the longevity and proper functioning of the TV. Users are advised to read and retain the manual, heed all warnings, and follow all instructions.

  • Cleaning: The TV should be cleaned only with a dry cloth. When cleaning, the power cord should be unplugged, and a soft/dry cloth should be used. Avoid spraying water or other liquids directly on the TV and refrain from using chemicals like glass cleaner, air freshener, insecticide, lubricants, wax, abrasive, thinner, benzene, or alcohol, as these can damage the product or panel. When cleaning, be careful not to allow any liquid or foreign objects to enter the gap between the panel and the guide panel.
  • Ventilation: Proper ventilation is crucial. The TV should not be installed in confined spaces, on carpets or cushions, or blocked by cloth or other materials. Ventilation openings should not be touched, as they may become hot during prolonged use.
  • Power Cord: The power cord must be protected from physical or mechanical abuse, such as twisting, kinking, pinching, or being walked upon. It should be connected securely to the TV and wall socket. A damaged or loosely fitting power cord should not be used. When unplugging, grasp the plug, not the cord.
  • Environmental Conditions: Avoid placing the TV in direct sunlight, high humidity areas (like bathrooms), near heat sources (radiators, stoves, amplifiers), near kitchen counters or humidifiers where it can be exposed to steam or oil, in areas exposed to rain or wind, or in excessively dusty places. Objects filled with liquids should not be placed on or over the apparatus. Flammable objects should be kept away from the TV.
  • Safety Precautions: The TV should be unplugged during lightning storms or when unused for long periods. Servicing should be referred to qualified personnel if the apparatus is damaged, exposed to liquids or objects, or not operating normally. Do not attempt to modify the product without authorization. Use only manufacturer-specified attachments/accessories. Do not disassemble the AC adapter or power cord. Handle the adapter carefully to avoid dropping it. Avoid touching the TV with wet hands.
  • Moving the TV: When moving or lifting the TV, ensure it is turned off, unplugged, and all cables are removed. It is recommended to move the TV in its original box or packing material. The screen should face away from the user to prevent damage. Hold the top and bottom of the TV frame firmly, avoiding transparent parts, speakers, or speaker grilles. At least two people should move a large TV. Avoid jolts or excessive vibration, and keep the TV upright.
  • Stand and Wall Mount Installation: When attaching the stand, place the screen face down on a cushioned surface to protect it from scratches. Ensure all provided screws are fully tightened to prevent tilting or tipping. If wall mounting, remove the stand first. Use a VESA standard wall mount and ensure it is securely attached to a solid wall. Avoid installing the TV where it could be exposed to oil or oil mist.
  • Image Sticking: Avoid displaying still images for prolonged periods to prevent image sticking.
  • Noise: Cracking noises due to plastic thermal contraction are normal. Low-level humming/buzzing from the electrical circuit is also normal and does not affect performance.

The manual also includes information about open-source software, licenses (HDMI, HEVC Advance, Quick Set), and LG's take-back and recycling policy, emphasizing the company's commitment to environmental protection and resource conservation.
