Overview

This document is an instruction manual for an LG Electronics extractor hood, specifically models DT6101SAU and DT6101SSA. It provides comprehensive guidance on installation, usage, and maintenance to ensure safe and efficient operation.

Function Description

The LG extractor hood is designed exclusively for household use to eliminate kitchen smells and cooking vapors. It operates by drawing air from the cooking area and either expelling it outside (ducted version) or recirculating it through filters back into the kitchen (recirculation version). The hood features an integrated lighting system to illuminate the cooking surface and an extractor motor with multiple speed settings to adjust suction power according to cooking needs.

Usage Features

The hood's functions are activated by pulling out the sliding suction panel. Conversely, closing the panel will turn off all functions.

Controls:

  • Light (L): This switch controls the lighting system, allowing users to turn the lights on or off.
  • Motor (M): This switch controls the extractor motor, offering three speed settings:
    • Low speed (1): Ideal for continuous and quiet air changes when there are light cooking vapors.
    • Medium speed (2): Suitable for most operating conditions, providing an optimal balance between hood performance and noise levels.
    • Maximum speed (3): Recommended for eliminating the highest cooking vapor emissions, especially for longer periods.

General Use Recommendations:

  • Never use the hood for purposes other than its intended design.
  • Avoid leaving high naked flames under the hood while it is in operation.
  • Adjust flame intensity to ensure it is directed only onto the bottom of the pan, preventing it from engulfing the sides of the pan.
  • Deep fat fryers must be continuously monitored during use, as overheated oil can burst into flames.
  • The hood should not be used by children or individuals who have not been instructed on its correct use.
  • Do not operate the appliance if it is damaged.
  • Never operate the extractor hood without a grease filter in place.
  • Do not flambé food directly under the extractor hood.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the hood's efficiency and safety. Always switch off or unplug the appliance from the mains supply before performing any maintenance work.

Grease Filters (Metal Cassette):

  • Cleaning: The metal cassette grease filters must be cleaned every two months, or more frequently if the hood is used heavily. They can be washed in a dishwasher.
  • Procedure:
    1. Pull out the sliding suction panel.
    2. Remove the filters one by one by disconnecting their fastening elements.
    3. Wash the filters, taking care not to bend them. Allow them to dry before refitting. Note that the filter surface color may change over time, but this does not affect its efficiency.
    4. When refitting, ensure the handle is visible on the outside.
    5. Close the sliding suction panel.
  • Fire Risk: Failure to clean the filters according to instructions poses a fire risk.

Charcoal Filters (Recirculation Version):

  • Replacement: These filters are not washable or regenerable and must be replaced approximately every four months, or more frequently with heavy use.
  • Procedure:
    1. Pull out the sliding suction panel.
    2. Remove the grease filters.
    3. Release the fixing hooks to remove the saturated carbon filter.
    4. Replace with new charcoal filters.
    5. Replace the grease filters.
    6. Close the sliding suction panel.

Light Replacement (20W Halogen Lamp):

  • Procedure:
    1. Remove the metal terminals that secure the metal panel.
    2. Slide the metal panel out of one of its fastening clips.
    3. Slightly lower the unfastened part of the panel to completely remove it.
    4. Extract the lamp from its support.
    5. Replace with a new lamp of the same type, ensuring the two pins are properly inserted into the lamp holder socket holes.
    6. Reassemble the metal panel in reverse order.
  • Safety Warning: Halogen bulbs become very hot when switched on and remain hot for some time after being switched off, posing a risk of burns.

General Cleaning:

  • Clean the hood using a damp cloth and a neutral liquid detergent.
  • Defective bulbs should be replaced immediately to prevent overloading of the remaining bulbs.
