Safety instructions for use
To minimize the risk of fi re with in the inner bowl, the followin g should be observed:
• Items t hat have been spotted or soaked with vegetab le or cooking oil constitute a fi re hazard and should not b e
placed in a tumble dryer.
Oil-affected items ca n ignite spontaneously, especially when exposed to heat s ources Such as in a tumble dryer.
The items become warm, caus ing an oxidation reaction in the oil. Oxidation creates heat . If the heat cannot
escape, the items can bec ome hot enough to catch fi re. Piling, stack ing or storing oil-affected items can prevent
heat from escaping and so creat e a fi re hazard.
If it is unavoidable that fabric s that contain vegetable or cooking oil or have been c ontaminated by hair care prod-
ucts be placed in a tumble dr yer they should fi rst be washed in h ot water with extra detergent-this will reduce,
but not eliminate, the hazard. Th e ‘cool down’ cycle of tumble dryers should be used to reduce t he temperature
of the items. They should not be rem oved from the tumble dryer or piled or stacked while hot.
• Items t hat have been previously cleaned in, washed in, soaked in or spot ted with petrol/gasoline, dr y-cleaning
solvents or other fl ammable or explosive s ubstances should not be placed in a tumble dryer.
Highly fl ammable substances commonl y used in domestic environments include acetone, denatu red alcohol,
petrol/gas oline, kerosene, spot removers (some brands ), turpentine, waxes and wax removers.
• Items c ontaining foam rubber (also known as lat ex foam) or similarly testured rubber like materials sh ould not be
dried in a tumble dryer on a heat se tting.
Foam rubber materials ca n, when heated, produce fi re by spo ntaneous combustion.
• Fabr ic softeners or similar products should not be us ed during a drying cycle, to eliminate the effects of st atic
electricity unles s this practice is specifi cally recommended by the manufac turer of the fabric softener or product.
• Unde rgarments that contain metal reinforcement s should not be placed in a tumble dryer.
Damage to the tumble dryer ca n result if metal reinforcements come loose during dr ying.
When available a drying rack c ould be used for such items.
• Plastic articles su ch as shower caps or babies waterproof napkin cove rs should not be placed in a tumble dryer.
• Rubb er-backed art icles, clothes fi tted w ith foam rubber pads, pillows, rubber boots an d rubber-coated tennis
shoes should not be placed in a tumbl e dryer.
