Overview

This document is an owner's manual for an LG Fridge & Freezer, providing comprehensive information on its installation, operation, smart functions, and maintenance.

Function Description:

The LG Fridge & Freezer is a household appliance designed for storing food, both refrigerated and frozen. It features various compartments and technologies to ensure optimal food preservation and user convenience. Key functions include:

  • Refrigeration and Freezing: Maintains specific temperature ranges for fresh and frozen foods.
  • Ice and Water Dispenser: Provides cubed ice, crushed ice, and chilled water. Some models feature an automatic icemaker.
  • Smart Functions (LG ThinQ Application): Allows communication with the appliance via a smartphone for remote control and Smart Diagnosis.
  • InstaView Door-in-Door: A transparent panel that allows users to see inside the refrigerator without opening the door, reducing cold air loss.
  • Door-in-Door Compartment: A convenient storage area for frequently accessed items.
  • Hygiene Fresh: A feature that reduces odors inside the fridge compartment.
  • Express Freeze: Quickly freezes large amounts of food or ice.
  • Water Filter: Filters water for the dispenser and icemaker, with an indicator for replacement.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Refrigerant: Contains a small amount of isobutane refrigerant (R600a), which is combustible. The room size for appliance use should be at least 1 m² for every 8 g of R600a.
  • Climate Class: Designed to operate within specific ambient temperature ranges (SN, N, ST, T), typically between 10 °C and 43 °C. The climate class is indicated on the rating label.
  • Water Supply Requirements (for plumbed models):
    • Water Pressure: Between 138 kPa and 827 kPa (1.4-8.4 kgf/cm²). A booster pump may be needed for low pressure areas.
    • Water Temperature: Maximum 37.8 °C.
    • Capacity (Water Filter): 1892 litres.
    • Service Flow: 1.9 lpm.
  • Electrical Safety: Requires a dedicated, properly grounded power line with a separate fuse.
  • Dimensions and Clearances: Requires over 50 mm of clearance between the back of the appliance and the wall for proper ventilation and energy efficiency.
  • Automatic Icemaker Production: Can produce 40-84 cubes within a 24-hour period under favorable conditions.
  • Water Dispenser Tank Capacity (Non-plumbed models): 4 litres.

Usage Features:

  • Installation:
    • Requires two or more people for transport.
    • Must be installed on a firm, level floor, away from direct sunlight or heat sources.
    • Instructions provided for removing and refitting fridge and freezer doors if entrance is too narrow.
    • Water line connection for plumbed models requires a qualified plumber and adherence to local regulations.
    • Levelling legs and door alignment adjustments ensure stability and proper door closure.
    • After installation, wait 3-4 hours before loading food to allow the appliance to cool.
  • Operation:
    • Control Panel: Allows setting fridge and freezer temperatures, checking water filter status, and selecting dispenser modes (cubed ice, crushed ice, water). Features include Hygiene Fresh, Express Freeze, and Lock function.
    • Door Open Alarm: Sounds if a door is left open for 1 minute.
    • Storing Foods Effectively: Recommendations include using sealed containers, cooling hot food before storage, avoiding overfilling, and checking expiration dates.
    • Two Star Compartment: Suitable for storing ice and pre-frozen food from -12 °C to -18 °C for short periods, not for freezing fresh food.
    • InstaView Door-in-Door: Knock twice on the glass to illuminate the interior.
    • Door in Door: Opened by pulling a lever, providing easy access to frequently used items.
    • Drawers and Shelves: Removable for cleaning and organization. Vegetable drawers may have humidity controllers.
    • Door Baskets: For small packaged items, drinks, and sauces.
  • Smart Functions:
    • LG ThinQ Application: Connects the appliance to a home Wi-Fi network (2.4 GHz only) for remote control and settings adjustments.
    • Smart Diagnosis: Helps diagnose problems via the LG ThinQ app or audible diagnosis (holding a smartphone to the speaker while pressing the Freezer button).

Maintenance Features:

  • General Cleaning:
    • Use a soft cloth and mild detergent; avoid rough brushes, abrasive cleaners, or flammable substances (alcohol, thinner, benzene).
    • Clean door gaskets regularly.
    • Detach and clean shelves and drawers with water, ensuring they are dry before refitting.
    • Do not clean glass shelves with warm water when cold to prevent shattering.
    • Do not wash shelves or containers in a dishwasher.
  • Cleaning the Condenser Cover: Use a vacuum cleaner with a brush every 12 months to maintain operating efficiency.
  • Water Filter Replacement:
    • Replace every 6 months or when the indicator lights up/water output decreases.
    • Instructions provided for both plumbed and push-fit connector types.
    • After replacement, dispense approximately 5 litres of water to remove trapped air and contaminants.
  • Frost Removal: Contact an LG Electronics customer information center for frost removal.
  • Extended Power Outage: Dispose of ice in the ice bin during extended power outages.
  • Vacation Preparation: Drain the water supply system if ambient temperature drops below freezing, turn off the icemaker, and shut off the water supply. Empty the ice bin.
